Dear @kicad: I'm pretty sure I'm ignorant to why some decisions were made regarding the start screen, yet it makes no sense to me. Is there any explanation why things are not how I put in the attached image? Thanks! Regardless, still a wonderful tool (that I absolutely love). Cheers! @TT_392 @kicad Yes, absolutely. Clearly arranged for oner project at a time. No doubt there. I do wish you could have more than one, though. And yes, I'm pretty sure it may not be an easy thing. I'm just curious as the reasons (my guess is as yours: legacy code). And I'm not asking them to change in any way, I don't want to be rude with such a great tool and great developers dedicating their time and effort to it.

I have a question for people with #YouTube and #PeerTube channels: what's your preferred viewer profile? YT + Patreon, YT Premium or PT + Patreon? How about people who don't have money and can only watch? Is YT giving you any money in those cases? I've been doubtful about watching on PT, because I don't support a lot of channel on Patreon, and I want to at least make people earn a few cents. /cc @janbeta @NoelsRetroLab @MoreFunMakingIt

Say I subscribe to @NoelsRetroLab channel, and a little part of it goes to @MakerTube to help them keep operating. That would be really neat. (And maybe there's a way, and I don't know it). This kind of things should be frictionless, to help PeerTube gain traction. YouTube is killing small channels...

@janbeta Yes, of course I don't expect algorithms on PeerTube. My thinking is this: I see people more prone to subscribe to channels than help the platform directly. Or maybe, you can't give money to a lot of different platforms (for whatever reason). So I think it's fair that a little money is given to the platform (PeerTube instance) if I subscribe to the channel. I would love to have this option, but from my research this is not an option right now.

@qlp @jimniels @thomasfuchs Just personal taste, but to me, Handbrake and Audacity are two of the ugliest icons Iโ€™ve ever seen. Both apps have, in my opinion, also horrendous UX. A pity , as both are practical apps. If you want a trio, add Gimp to the pack.

Finally has announced the availability of multi-colored PCBs! (Something that may interest @rc2014, btw). The best part of it is I can finally talk about it, since I was informed this was going to be offered around 2022, but the information was embargoed until the official announcement ๐Ÿ˜…

If you're a graphic designer, and able to, now is a good time to consider financially supporting some FLOSS tools. ๐Ÿ‘€

Sure, most are nowhere near the closed-source tools as far as usability and functionality is concerned.

But this keeps happening. We had the same kind of conversations a while ago when Figma (almost) got acquired by Adobe.

And it will keep happening until there are truly viable FLOSS tools in this space.

@rysiek Iโ€™m a Designer and an advocate of FOSS. Iโ€™ve been trying for YEARS to switch to FOSS apps, but itโ€™s impossible.

The main problem why me and other designers donโ€™t use FOSS apps in any professional capacity is because those tools are not made for us.

Most of us use Macs. We need apps that feel native on Mac OS. Apps with good UX, and features tailored to Designers.

None of the FOSS apps fulfill that. Most feel outdated and/or alien. So, we resort to commercial apps.

@rysiek Yes, I agree the tools need work. The big problem is: if the devs want Designers to use those apps, they need to listen to Designers and let them contribute to the project.

In my short stint trying to contribute to a well known FOSS Design app I came to the conclusion that some devs donโ€™t care what we think, or simply behave like dictators (and not benevolent ones).

So, Designers have learned to stay away from those apps.

@rysiek Possible? Yes, maybe. But itโ€™ll require such a change in attitude from some people that I think itโ€™s not realistic to expect it to happen.

Thereโ€™s no need to apologize. It is what it is. I tried my best to help change it, and failed miserably (and ended up resented to some apps. Took me a while to leave that behind).

I just want people to know that Designers know these tools, and avoid them for a reason. Itโ€™s sad, I know. I wish things were different, trust me.

@TheByteAttic Nice! ๐Ÿ˜Š Question (from total ignorance): I was looking at using the CH32V003, which is a RISC-V MP for some of my projects, and I, for some reason, thought if it would be possible to create something like Talos, but for the RISC-V ISA? I've read that RISC-V is modular, and great for education, but as I know nothing about ISAs, I just wanted to ask, out of pure curiosity (and not at all as a suggestion, just a theoretical question) if that's feasible. At this point, the Fediverse seems to be the most reasonable existing solution for the future social web in my opinion. Iโ€™m too interested to not take a look at the alternatives though. Decentralization plus interoperability are the way forward long term, hopefully. Weโ€˜ll see how it goes. One can always hope.

@janbeta Yes, it's a "let's just stand there and see what happens" game for me too. But I too think the Fediverse is the best option. I'm not on Threads, though. No interest in giving any personal information to Meta (my only Meta account is an Instagram account for my projects).

Meanwhile, I got sidetracked again because this cute thing just arrived. The smaller version of the legendary Big Muff guitar effect pedal. It sounds just like its bigger sibling, noisy and sweet. It was a grunge era favorite and Hendrix allegedly used one as well. Love it. Found it for cheap and the plan is to make some modifications for more versatility (maybe thereโ€™s even going to be a video about that in the future). #Guitar #GuitarEffects #Pedalboard #BigMuff

@janbeta Yes, it's an easy mod, actually. This one seems to use MMBD4148 silicon diodes in a SOT23 package. You can try with Schottky's (BAT54S come in SOT23 too), or with small LEDs, if you want it to sound more like EQD's Hoof. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    It's not by chance that Mastodon users can see Threads posts first, before Threads users can see Mastodons posts. They'll probably try to lure people to their platform.

    They'll let Threads users see Mastodon (and #Fediverse users) later, but I'm willing to bet that Fediverse posts will never be offered in the algorithm ("For You" tab), and will only be seen in the "Following" tab (that will never be the default). We'll see.

    @dansup @pixelfed Do you think they'll put Instagram on ActivityPub in the future? Instagram is way more mature as a platform than Threads. AP integration may be way more difficult. But being able to follow Instagram accounts from Pixelfed (or Mastodon) may be huge. What's your opinion?
