@OutofPrintArchive I had this game, bought it at a local game shop which only did japan imports. stupidly, i sold it together with my original gameboy when i needed the money for upgrading my computer 😭
@vga256 didn't have a decent midi device when this game was released, only a soundblaster, as many people. I'll be sure to test it with my mt32-pi now!
This article about a BBS sysop brings back sweet memories of the dial-up modem days.
I was a youngster in 1989 when I got a 1200 baud modem from the publisher of a Dutch Amiga magazine, so I didn't need to deliver my articles on a diskette anymore.
The connection was so slow, you could see the characters appear on screen one by one. Something that persisted in movies for 10-15 years.
My mum exploded when she saw the first phone bill after I started using the modem. 😅
@metin good times, my first modem exp was with a 2400 one, build into my uncle's laptop. not much later i started my own BBS, a 2 node usrobotics 28.8kbps system with 1GB of storage! focussed on (pc) demo scene releases. i still don't know how i managed to pay for it all as a teenager.
@Corb_The_Lesser@elduvelle there have been windows 'copy' linux distros in the past, bestt known was Lindows. And it was shut down by MS.
Still, it is a weird question, and i'm not sure i understand it correctly. Linux can do almost everything windows can, sometimes better, sometimes worse. It can do things windows can't. You can run a lot of windows apps using wine. For 99% of people linux desktop would be just fine.
@elduvelle been thinking about this over the last day, I still find it a weird question. You could say the same about macOS, for example, why doesn't that exactly do what windows does?
#TodayInHistory 1964 – #IBM announces the System/360. It was extremely successful, allowing customers to purchase a smaller system they could expand, if their needs grew, without reprogramming application software. It influenced computer design for years to come. Many consider it one of history's most successful computers.
very rarely i can still find old sierra titles at the thrift store. this is the first time i’ve found a sierra flight sim in the wild: the highly respected Red Baron 3D (3dfx/Glide re-release of RB II) 😍
Do you think there will ever be a "replica" tech market for old computers & displays? There's exciting progress around reproducing old game consoles & arcades with FPGA, but doesn't seem like old computers get the same love.
I'd like to acquire a large CRT monitor with a high refresh rate this year for example, but seems like it'll come down to luck if I find one that works for an extended period of time. I shouldn't have to learn electronics repair to enjoy retro technology.
@rootcompute do you know the mister fga 'emulates' most old home computers from the 8 and 16 bit era? Unless you're really talking about some obscure platforms, it probably already has a mister core, even 486 msdos pc!
