Um.. .. what’s up with this 46 F (~8C)? I mean… it’s certainly “refreshing”… and I do understand we’re just 45 minutes south of the Canadian border… but did Mother Nature miss the memo about last weekend being Memorial Day and “the start of summer”? 🤣

Nearly all of Iran’s IPv6 address space vanished from the global routing table, dropping the country’s IPv6 adoption rate from 15—20% to 2%. My colleague Aftab Siddiqui dives deeply into the stats and measurements…

Interesting piece in the Wall St Journal about all the AI activity spurring a return to investing in energy and utilities: https://www.wsj.com/finance/stocks/ai-is-driving-the-next-industrial-revolution-wall-street-is-cashing-in-8cc1b28f
Somewhat to be inspected in the sense of investing in mining equipment for a gold rush. A question will be - will those energy companies use the added investment to move to more sustainable energy production? Or continue with just more of the same?

A third Chinese company files with the ITU to launch a 10,000 satellite mega-constellation into low Earth orbit (LEO) - https://spacenews.com/chinese-firm-files-plans-for-10000-satellite-constellation/

If all these LEO operators actually launch their constellations, it’s gonna get pretty crowded up there!

@brianstorms The ITU (a UN agency) is definitely having all of this LEO activity on their radar, but they work on a very long timeframe.

Anyone use a Blackstone griddle for barbecuing? If so, what do you think about it? Our 27-year-old Weber BBQ grill has finally died, and I have recently been cooking on a Blackstone griddle when I volunteer at the Snack Shack at our local baseball fields. We don’t honestly cook enough red meat where I might want the direct flame of a grill. I feel like the griddle might be better for some of the vegetables and other things we cook - and would also still work fine for hamburgers and hot dogs.

@mhoye That’s very true.. except that I’m not convinced that newer models would last that long. It feels like so many products have gotten cheaper in construction.

@rsalz Too funny that you got that! Thanks for thinking of me! I actually did stumble upon it last week and started listening.

It’s particularly interesting to me because our oldest daughter was a teenager at that time and was involved with national-level competitive curling. And so we were there when suddenly there was a new requirement that you could only use certain broomheads! (And NOT the ones in the story)

It was a very strange time in the world of 🥌 !!

I was not anticipating that we would need to get out the air conditioners in MAY all the way up here in northern #Vermont ... but I see neighbors doing it... and this just may be the day for us, too!

We seemed to have skipped much of the "Spring" thing and gone directly to Summer.

So this Thursday I will be doing something I haven't done since... maybe middle school (which is about 45 years ago!)... participating in a Spelling Bee! 🐝 🤣

Organized as a fundraiser by the Burlington Rotary Club, I'll be competing as part of a team of three, which seems like that should be helpful, but we'll see!

If you are in the general Burlington, #Vermont, area, you are welcome to come and watch:

A media podcast I listened to today said that “the web is old-fashioned”, as part of their analysis of the OpenAI and Google news this week. As if the web will turn into The Well, or something. But I am seeing the fediverse, standards-based web builders like Eleventy, and open newsletter platforms like Ghost and Buttondown (that both support the web), and I just don’t agree that the web is old-fashioned. Quite the opposite, it’s only just getting started (again)!

danyork,
@danyork@mastodon.social avatar

@ricmac Yes, the Web never went away… it was just consigned to the back room by the seductive power and convenience of the bright and shiny social platforms. But now finally some of that bright and shiny has faded for some people, and they are seeing what has developed in that back room while so many were looking at the shiny…
