corsicanguppy,

According to the video, a small boat did something other than immediately getting out of the way of the airplane.

There will be learning opportunities here.

Cubs of rare white grizzly bear killed in highway collision in Yoho National Park (www.cbc.ca)

The deaths of two bear cubs of a well-known rare white grizzly — known as Bear 178, but nicknamed Nakoda by locals — in Yoho National Park this week has reignited calls for increased awareness and highway safety for those visiting the mountains....

corsicanguppy,

Hate cars.

I think they were regular cars.

corsicanguppy,

As shown in the video, the rule about smaller vessels vs larger vessels was not followed, and the wheeeee boat guy failed to GTFO in a direction perpendicular to the direction of travel of the bigger vessel (the one with the blender on its nose). It’s a remarkable failure on the part of the wheeeeee boat captain.

We have licenses for boston whalers in boston whalers, right? Or is it just the airplane pilots who need to prove their knowledge?

I hope the civil case comes out well.

corsicanguppy,

The seaplane can’t really turn when moving that fast, but the boat should have been easily able to turn around, slow down, or get out of the way.

That’s why the rule is generally the smaller boat will GTFO of the way; preferably with a 90-degree turn.

The title says ‘could’ like it’s a faraway fantasy thing instead of the very next thing that has to happen.

This balkanization of coastal and inland ferries and the highway system, to pit one against another, has severely disadvantaged the people on the Island economically with higher costs, reduced service and access to the mainland, and causing the stagnation of small towns.

As our population grows, we need to breathe life into these towns. These small towns need service providers, new infrastructure and cost reduction, but the densification and consolidation of housing in these areas is impaired by the poor service TO them.

Transportation Minister Rob Fleming tabled Bill 7 (archive)

And it’s dead. The same hand who over-saw Translink before its ransomware boogaloo is involved in this. If you’re the finger-pointy type, it’s hard to keep your digits to yourself.

But - obligatory imperfect-is-better-than-wrong reminder - the Cons aren’t about to bring BCFerries back into the fold, as they’re not really about consolidation and cost-savings; and we’ve seen how the BCLibs/SocCred/United/nom-de-jour party did treat consolidated infrastructure with the BCRail deal where the only ‘selling’ was an idea and justification to the public after the transaction.

Is Canada Finally Taking Far-Right Extremism Seriously? (thetyee.ca)

In late summer 2023, the RCMP made headlines with the arrests of two men in Ottawa and Kingsey Falls, Quebec, on terrorism and hate propaganda charges. The arrests marked a significant victory in a three-year investigation by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team targeting the neo-Nazi group Atomwaffen Division....

corsicanguppy,

People unimpressed with imperfection willing to go full stupid by voting in the cruel elitist alternative that does everything wrong as Trudeau and then a fuck of a lot more?

Of course.

Is immigration something a real-estate journo should be reporting on? It seems a little out-of-its-lane.

Let’s overlook that it’s saying the population is 3-times the job market, with ‘3x’ in the headline like it’s a tik-tok, and it continues this format in the piece.

I feel it didn’t look into the population enough, but at least it stopped short of dog-whistling the entire tune and suggesting Bitcoin Milhouse is going to save us …somehow.

corsicanguppy,

And America is RIGHT THERE to show them otherwise, and still they pitch that to their slobbering crowd of knuckledraggers.

corsicanguppy,

If you’re the type who immediately stands up and blocks everything, then you’re definitely on the list of flying gripes; sorry to say.

Boarding back to front, windows-in, was definitely really cool when I was on a plane with that rule.

A way to lock the overheads and publicize that info would go a long way, I think.

corsicanguppy,

Also the road infrastructure will continue to exist even if it’s just for heavy transport (which is much worse on roads anyway).

If you’re not aware of how much it costs to maintain roads, that’s because it’s largely subsidized FOR trucking, and incompletely at that.

Witness the state of roads and especially bridges, and explain how they should be maintained considering who’s on them. Now remove trucking because we got smart and used rail for inter-city. You’re either going to be using a ez-pass a lot more or the roads will be straight outta Mad Max.

And finally, it’s a 6 hour flight or a 4-day driving trip. One’s shorter and far safer, and the other one destroys friendships because Dave will not stop snoring and I swear I’m going to stop this car right now.

corsicanguppy,

Ah. They’re the perfect market for ReactOS.

corsicanguppy,

I second that. I’m not seeing a lot of value from it, and it feel it heavily parrots a lot of articles and op-eds that I’d expect to be flagged as Russian Troll Farm spooge. Just me.

corsicanguppy,

I wouldn’t be suprised if it was a feature of tribalism[:] Imagining [scenarios] in an attempt to prepare for them.

Tribalism or just humanity: we are almost set apart by our ability to imagine scenarios and “pre-game” our response. If this was a mechanism to cope with fear of new things or wariness around a risky situation, it’d totally make sense.

corsicanguppy,

Yeesh. Thank you for your tireless service and please don’t quit.

corsicanguppy,

an email I sent to my boss about upgrading was never responded to

A priestly stole? I do not think that word means what you think it means.

corsicanguppy,

google may be being told by the government

There’s an X-files episode about this, with Morris Fletcher.

corsicanguppy,

I’m enraged there wasn’t handcuffs brought out at the pronouncement.

One law, muthafucka. Stand up.

corsicanguppy,

This is a ‘just grow up’ moment. Enough destroying a thousand acres of forest just to make a spectacle of a useless datapoint. You just KNOW these Felicias ordered SEPARATE limos to their middle-school grad party.

corsicanguppy,

There’s a huge opening here to tell mom jokes about her skills. Thank you for this.

corsicanguppy,

My peer at my last-last shop moved from devops to security; but to the checklist part of security. Making lists, validating lists, reviewing lists, checking compliance; she was a-fucking-mazing. A joy to work with because she was just a joy anyway - I’m sure everyone had a bro-crush on her - and outstanding at her job. She needs to get paid even more.

corsicanguppy,

Bad Dmitry! No lifted sanctions for you! Now you just go to your dark house and think about what you’ve done.

corsicanguppy,

While I enjoy working with some of my peers, we’re leaping to a really sketchy conclusion based on post-game analysis of a group not well-known for normal social skills and cues.

I’ve had some managers demonstrate a lot of caring and review when they’re not getting the cue that I understand the process or material, and giving them the benefit of the doubt I’m unwilling to decide that’s not what’s happening here.

Opinions being what they are, all I’m saying is reserve judgement.
