At Tuesday's USA v. Trump CIPA hearing, Judge Cannon will also be discussing the trial schedule, per today's order. Another order from the chief judge of the court bars media from bringing cell phones or electronic equipment into the courthouse. https://www.flsd.uscourts.gov/sites/flsd/files/adminorders/2023-47.pdf

There are a fair number of non-extremists defending 303 Creative as a narrow and necessary #SCOTUS free speech ruling. I see how they can make that argument.

My problem with that, ultimately, is three-fold.

As if on cue, the Texas Tribune today reports that Jonathan Mitchell, the former solicitor general of Texas, has asserted that 303 Creative is supplemental authority in a case brought by a Texas judge who doesn't want to conduct same-sex couples' weddings. The case was brought under Texas's RFRA. https://www.texastribune.org/2023/07/12/texas-judge-gay-weddings-supreme-court/

BREAKING: #SCOTUS rules that, under the First Amendment, Colorado nondiscrimination law cannot force a website designer to send a message with which she disagrees. Gorsuch writes the 6-3 decision for the court. Sotomayor writes the dissent. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/22pdf/21-476_c185.pdf

In the final three major decisions of the Supreme Court's term, the same 6-3 partisan-divide, conservative majority ended affirmative action, wrote an exemption into non-discrimination laws, and struck down a major Biden administration policy to relieve student loan debt.
