Just a guy who loves Jesus, family, and open source. In that order.

I am currently a #youthpastor / #youth #minister at an organization called Teens For Christ Connection.

Do you have a morning ritual?

#morningRoutine #morningRitual #morning #productivity

chriscochrun,

@sharan yes. Water, stretch and pray, coffee, pray, study and read, early morning work or coding, breakfast, get sons toothbrush for him, drive school bus.

My study and read routine is the unique part. Follow a plan, read a chunk of book, need to write out a few notes on my study, and then work on some other notes (refine them or something) for just a bit before working a bit.

Looking for some #app ideas. want to get more coding experience. What #Linux #foss apps would you like. For #qt #gtk #cli or other interfaces, doesn't matter.

The mainstream "tech" YouTubers and their consequences have been a disaster for my comment section.

Thanks to LTT and co. indiscriminately telling their viewers about how hard drives are "dead" and doing sponsored server builds with 16TB SSD arrays, I now have to endure at least one teenager with a Roblox pfp per week commenting "HDDs are dead lol, nobody should be using spinning rust! downvoted and unsubscribed" under my video.

chriscochrun,

@notthebee lol. Kids these days. Don't let it get to you. Everyone feels the need to try and act smarter than others.

chriscochrun,

@BlackAzizAnansi #emacs. It's awesome.

chriscochrun, to emacs

Ugh. I've been trying to debug #Emacs freezing on opening #org agenda all morning. I'm not getting much done.......

chriscochrun,

@dekkzz76 a lot. But it had been fine up until yesterday. I think somewhere around 50 files.

chriscochrun,

@dekkzz76 finally got it. Not sure what changed really. But it's working again.

chriscochrun,

@dekkzz76 I cleared out my eln-cache directory and .cache/emacs. Something in one of those two is my guess.

I found a thrumb drive with an ancient back up on it and discovered some absolute gems, here is me chilling on what I think was our first family computer running Vista. Parents coming from a farming background didn't really care for computers until the early 2000's

chriscochrun,

@BrodieOnLinux yooooo. That was me as a kid too! Only I think it was windows 2000.

I don't believe that @postmarketOS or other projects are a replacement to existing or devices just yet.

However, very soon it will be totally viable to leave them in a drawer at home and only use them when really needed.

I think it's not so much about using one device exclusively, I think it's about which device you keep in your pocket on an ordinary day.

chriscochrun,

@fell @postmarketOS I really hope so. I'm getting a pixel right now because I broke my old phone. The oneplus 6t I have for playing with #pmos just doesn't cut it. The audio can be finicky, wifi doesn't always Auto connect, and can't use the usb c with an audio adaptor. I really want it to work but it just isn't quite there.

We have to release nix flakes before you can find out how to use them

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uC4bXmcUvw

chriscochrun,

@soller this is very true. I think in the end its what pushed me to guix. I prefer lisp more, but most would probably still prefer nix to lisp.

    chriscochrun, to guix

I've been building out my #guix config. I've even started moving data from my #NixOS partition to the guix one. But it's hard when it seems NixOS has reached critical mass in the eyes of many Linux folks and has so much already done for you. But Guix has such a better language. I just need to learn more #scheme. I'm normally a #commonlisp guy but a lisp is a #lisp.

    chriscochrun,

@sandro this is true and one of the reasons I held onto NixOS for so long. But I can install the plasma desktop using nix and home manager and since it was NixOS, I declared services anyway so you do the essential same in Guix. I'll keep tinkering and playing.

    chriscochrun,

@sandro yes however you can still run it without systemd or is that a faux feature? Anyway, they have it built in guix. It's only a matter of time before it works. Guix has some form of systemd translation or emulation. Not sure which.

    chriscochrun,

@sandro Hmmm.. I'm really not sure that it only applies to KDE Gear. Gentoo has it working with OpenRC. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/KDE Plus, I know the KDE developers switched to using systemd as the startup process, but I do think that they left the ability to not use that and thus make it work without systemd.

iPhone users: What's the equivalent of adb push Music /sdcard/ ?

As in, is it possible to upload several gigabytes of music to an iPhone and then listen to it with VLC (or similar)?

If so, how? Please don't tell me it involves the modern day equivalent of iTunes.

If you suggest something like Spotify we might fall out.

    chriscochrun,

@JoeRess https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/IOS this is where I always go. The ifuse package specifically.

The #Reddit protests have been a disaster, blackout with an end date, some subs deciding to continue it but many just giving up, now subs that don't give up are being forced open by admins/replacing mod team, subs that open of own accord becoming shitpost subs as a "protest". Within a week or 2 people will get bored of the shitposting and go back to using the sub like normal and absolute nothing will have changed. Like Mastodon with Twitter, Lemmy has seen massive growth but Reddit has not seen a mass exodus of users.

    chriscochrun,

@BrodieOnLinux and all because people are too lazy to use something else. *sigh...

Found an #emacs community on #Lemmy. Not much anywhere there now, but I makes more sense to me for Emacs to have a presence there. https://lemmy.sdf.org/c/emacs

OpenAI’s Altman and other AI giants back warning of advanced AI as ‘extinction’ risk. If Sam truly believes in the risks posed by AI, he should consider shutting down OpenAI. Power down the data center, delete software & models associated with it. I don't get his motivation here. What do you want, man? First, you say OpenAI is the best. Then, the next day you say it will pose a significant risk to the human race. So, shut down the OpenAI & move on with your life. Stop making up bullshit

    chriscochrun,

@nixCraft altman also started a crypto project recently specifically designed to prove when AI is being used and therefore combat all misinformation. It's a scam where they want to encode scanned retinas of everyone into a blockchain that they've premined %20 of. He's playing both sides, developing the problem, using fear as an awesome marketing tool to make it more useful and dip into everyone's pockets, then develop the solution and dip again. It's just trash.

I think I may try it once I get guix installed. I just have gotten used to hyprland. But maybe if enough lispers start hacking on it we can have some more prettys.

#guix: a distro you can mes around with

    chriscochrun,

@098bfa86b83e88e6164c52db13acbf@mostr.pub @rml my struggle was that #guix was missing a lot of dependencies for some of the stuff I either use or need. I had to write the pkgs for a lot of stuff just to work on some of my projects. So in the end I switched back to nix until I get inspired enough to try again.

    chriscochrun,

@rml @098bfa86b83e88e6164c52db13acbf@mostr.pub one of my projects with rust I had gotten a nix flake to work pretty quickly, but couldn't figure out a guix.scm. So yes there is something different there. Also I've hardly even needed to write nixpkgs because most are done. In guix, not so much. There is just more work to do. Not that I'm not opposed, just still need to get my work done.
