would you like to participate in a focused magazine about nostalgia? do you have a personal connection to any of these games? if so, would you like to write a short piece about it?

I have it on good authority that #Nintendo "Switch 2" (named the "Swipe") is a card-based console with a card reader built into the unit. The cards, once swiped, unlock access to: full games, wallpapers, avatars, DLC, and even apps like Hulu, YouTube, and Netflix. The Swipe will be released by the end of Q2 2025, alongside over 200 cards purchased separately in booster packs.

One of the neat things about this is that, if you still have old e-Reader cards, you can swipe them for fun extras.

anyone know any good #IRC servers for #gaming or #nerdcore that 1) isn't sketch as hell and 2) open to possible drunken spam post-midnight et?

buru5, to DOOM
@buru5@mstdn.games avatar

start of this level is really enjoyable; enemies popping out from every corner, carnage everywhere, good stuff.

i'm not going to talk much about #Doom E1M1, but i will mention that it does a great job leading the player. pass a locked door, find the obvious key for that door later on; the backtrack is apparent, non-confusing, and feels rewarding.

#Heretic on the other hand is like "here's a switch, it opened a random wall somewhere on the map, figure it out"

lots of enemies close in on our hero

cartoon portrait of me circa 2019 or so. this was at a work thing, and the artist talked to me for about 30 minutes before doing the sketch, hence the cats and speech bubble contents.

#Momus is a pop-musician / artist / human being / worldly treasure that has stayed true to himself since the '80s. he runs a series called "Open University" in which he rambles thoughtful about whatever strikes his fancy. this episode on #AI contains some unique insight on the current limitations of existing ai models and possible impact / future-state for #music.

i've always found pop covers of metal songs fascinating as they clearly draw out the original creator's intended melody and reveal the pop underpinnings of metal (standard verse-chorus song structures, for example), and The Cardigan's cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath comes close to being one of my favorite renovations.

anything else come to mind?

Radical idea for social media: we should be able to leave a like on other people's like actions. If somebody likes (or "favorites" in Mastodon parlance) my post, I should be able to express that I like that they liked what I had to say

We could continue giving each other back and forth likes until eventually two accounts bound together in reciprocal liking reach the like singularity

if smell posts were a thing: this post would stunkify your timeline. you would have to filter out smell posts in the mastodon settings or disable the functionality entirely or cover the smell bar on your mobile device and/or desktop pc.

[12] 10 Things I Hate About You is a romantic comedy targeted toward the teen demographic. In essence, it’s William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” retold with a ‘90s high school backdrop. It features a young Heath Ledger as the leading man and Julia Stiles as “the shrew” to be “tamed.” But who’s really being tamed here? It’s really a charming film full of witty dialog, excellent performances, and a great soundtrack.

can you name the bands on the wall?

the one above Julia's head is the cover of Juliana Hatfield's 1992 album "Hey Babe" ('I See You' and 'Everybody Loves Me But You' are superb tracks off that album); can't figure out the others, although the one above Juliana's with the girl with the glasses looks familiar. #music

i'm looking for 3 more non-profit internet passion projects to advertise in the pages of this magazine.

any takers?

it can be as simple as your blog, or as complicated as a musical project -- it must be a unique website or blog (not a patreon or something that's sole purpose is asking for money).

the purpose is to support/spread the work of other passionate creators who share my "FREE ART!" ethos (for lack of a more clever name).
