Hey Mastodon, what's a free hosting plan for a server-side Web app + DB you'd recommend? Should I pursue with good old #php and #mysql or is there something more modern? I have a small doodling idea for this three days week-end and maybe I should also learn a new language?
@mwop not saying it's not modern, sorry if it came across as that. It's just that I learned #php 24 years ago and still use the same constructs as I did back then, never switched to object oriented for instance... I'm the one who's not modern 😅

Sinon concernant le gestionnaire de mdp de #firefox, il fait le job comme il faut selon moi :
données chiffrées avant emvoi, dechifrées localement sur un nouveau device (c'était le cas au début en tout cas, récemment le mécanisme a changé mais il me semble que ça reste une dérivation du mot de passe du compte Firefox qui permet de (dé)chiffrer)
pas de gestion du MFA type TOTP ce qui permet de garder un device différent pour le second facteur
mot de passe maître configurable (j'ai pas creusé récemment si on pouvait utiliser le PIN/bio du device mais ça serait cool)
si le cloud est down, ça sync plus. Mais ça fonctionne en local
Si la base est reset, j'imagine que ça peut wipe le local en attendant un restore du cloud (oui on peut export/import dans/depuis un fichier local)
Si on n'a pas confiance dans son provider Cloud, on n'y va pas (ou bien on a la procédure d'exit sous la main et activable en un clic avec les sauvegardes locales et tout le nécessaire)
#phanpy When I clicked on a post using phanpy, I used to be able to click on replies and like, boost, or reply to them. Now if I want to do that I have to switch to the standard Mastodon desktop app. Is something broken?
@cheeaun@jredlund is there a reason why tapping (on mobile) on a reply doesn't open the toot? Still works when clicking using the mouse (on desktop browser)

@cheeaun ok, the change is consistent accross mobile and desktop, my browser cache did not update for my initial test.
I'm curious why you removed the click capability on descendants? I may want to see the action buttons or have a view centered on a specific reply and its own descendants (which are sometimes collapsed)

Un autre vient de Chrome qui est tellement présent pour naviguer sur le Web que celui-ci devient de fait,une monoculture, comme à l'époque d'Internet Explorer dominant le marché des navigateurs.
L'enjeu selon certains (dont je suis) est d'utiliser un moteur de navigation différent de celui de Chrome (donc éviter également Safari, Edge ou Opera).

The buildup and outcome of this lawsuit will probably define the future of AI in the USA.
@dimillian I'm not so optimistic. What about content copyright? What about liability against hallucinations? (which is a fancy word for the reality : plain garbage output)
And about the fact that we're not going back, this makes me sick we are just not capable of responsible use of any technology. Humans are just dumb and greedy.
@dimillian and what bothers me the most is current technologists just grabbing everything that's out there by default and considering it like theirs and not thinking for a second whether what they do is allowed or acceptable or ethical or harmful. Not a second.
À mon avis, ils n'ont pas encore réalisé que leur loi de merde ne va pas arrêter l'immigration clandestine. Des gens qui fuient la torture, la guerre, la misère et sont prêts à braver tous les dangers pour cela, quitte à risquer la mort, ne seront pas freinés par une loi. En revanche, ceux que cela va rebuter, c'est cette "immigration choisie" dont ils rêvent tous, les scientifiques, les médecins étrangers réfléchiront peut-être à 2 fois avant de venir dans un pays qui va les discriminer.

Data are separated from the applications and can migrate to the best UX.
@alebaffa OK multiple protocols (solid, activitypub, dwn, etc.) will be competing and probably coexist for a while to do that.
But that personal storage has to be somewhere : self-hosted in a closet at home (on-prem), self-hosted on a dedicated cloud instance at some cloud provider somewhere (IaaS or PaaS), mutualized instance (SaaS), or maybe on your phone in your pocket
@GossiTheDog I'm not sure I understand, Wikipedia says "WinSock File Transfer Protocol, or WS_FTP, is a secure file transfer software" so that situation clearly never could have happened...
I've been looking into the #elk client now, thanks to a recommendation by @Joe_GISc
Looks like a great alternative, particularly for users managing multiple accounts. However, for me, the lack of multi-column view is a no-go https://github.com/elk-zone/elk/issues/1404
so I'll stick to the official desktop app and hope it will get multi-user support eventually
