One thing Iโ€™ve struggled with a bit in my career is, Iโ€™ve been a generalist who is really good at a very large number of things instead of a specialist who is very good at a small number of things.

That wasnโ€™t always a positive thing early on, but at a senior level it is absolutely something that differentiates you.

Iโ€™m exceptionally good at explaining computers to people, and people to computer people.

These days I have noticed that my being a "jack-of-all-trades" is actually respected and rewarded at my work, but tbh I was a bit worried that this was just the context of working in a startup. There should be sanctions for businesses that do layoffs. Or even before that there should be more worker protection preventing layoffs ofc but also these businesses should experience financial sanctions

Sorry preaching to the choir here, it's just wild to me that they can do this stuff in total impunity.
One of my best friends was one of the few Twitter employees in the Netherlands. When Elon did the big layoffs they offered him a settlement in exchange for not suing, you know the standard. He said no and took them to court and basically got like 10x what they had offered him

Also: this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but my sister is looking for a job in Dubai or remote!

In October she adopted our 14-year-old niece, who lost both her parents (my cousin and her ex) ๐Ÿ’”. My sister has owned a small food supply business for the last 5 years now, but now being a single mom, she's looking for a more stable and secure income.

She has a background in business and has worked in corporate and back-office for Chanel, LVMH and Cartier to name a few.

The army has had to recruit really quickly to scale to fight terrorism, so I am hoping this is not a top-down order and rather a rogue batallion... which is only marginally better... but IB's silence is very concerning.
and even more concerning is the fact that this news has been totally omitted from lefaso.net and burkina24

What the heck was up with Biden saying cannibals ate his uncle?

I have a distant relative who was (imo, rightfully) killed in Futuna as he was a Christian missionary / colonizer. There was a rumor that he was eaten by cannibals but that was disproven ... And this was in the early 1800s. He later got canonized so he's a saint now.

All this to say, "Cannibals ate my colonizer relative" stories are so 1841.

Growing up, every Sunday evening, my dad had what he called "the Sunday night blues" where he'd sit on the sofa, occasionally sighing, stressed about starting work again the next day.

He retired a couple years ago - shortly after, I phoned him on a Sunday and it was the first time I'd ever heard him be his normal cheerful self on a Sunday evening!

Anyway today I feel what he felt and I need to nip this in the bud lol. Long term stress is nothing to play with.
