In the capital of Georgia thousands of people once again held a protest against the "Putin law"/"Russian law" during Georgia's Independence Day today marking the day of declaring independence from Russia on May 26 of 1918.

The law which was recently pushed through by the rulers in spite of being very unpopular and in spite of the presidential veto is very similar to laws used by Putin, al-Sisi and others to crush human rights NGOs and the freedom of the press by for example requiring people working for those register as "foreign agents" if 20% of their income is from outside, which of course is intended to cover independent human rights orgs of worldwide good repute like Amnesty International and similar.

"Aid once again enters Gaza from Egypt following temporary agreement with US"
https://www.madamasr.com/en/2024/05/26/news/politics/aid-once-again-enters-gaza-from-egypt-following-temporary-agreement-with-us/
From the only free press remaining in neighbor Egypt.

Egypt is the other State which has for decades directly participated in Israel's blockade against everyone in the Gaza Strip of Palestine, for pay and arms through the Camp David Accords between USA, Israel and Egypt, so USA is co-responsible for that part of the blockade imposing starvation as a method of warfare against the civilian population (the definition of a war crime) and therefore also rules on when it is to be eased.

⚠️ Confirmed: #Syria has imposed a nationwide internet blackout this morning as a countermeasure against cheating and paper leaks in school exams, joining Iraq and a handful of other countries who implement this disruptive policy; incident duration ~5 hours

b9AcE,
@b9AcE@todon.eu avatar

@netblocks Entirely friendly intended suggestion:

I think it may be good to add an "allegedly [as countermeasures, etc]", "stated to be intended [as countermeasures, etc]" to the descriptions of all events similar to this, as it is true as you report that the people in power claim the rationale for their action that you state but it can and often is disputed if there may be ulterior motives in at least several past cases and therefore a description taking their claim at face value may unintentionally whitewash such acts of and thereby aid regimes that cut Internet for other reasons like repugnant repression against protests for freedom, etc.

Thank you for a very, very good service!

b9AcE,
@b9AcE@todon.eu avatar

@netblocks Very good.
I guess it is easier to notice when something is missing that one thinks should be there, than to notice all the many times more occurrences of what you think should be there also being there. ;-)

"Upwards 80000 people held a demo yesterday evening in Tel Aviv, at these demos regularly held every Saturday against the government and for the hostages' freedom, and one of the speakers was a mother whose son sits in Gaza as hostage and she said 'Matan, when you come home I will tell you that our government has abandoned you', then she turned to Netanyahu and said 'while YOUR son is encouraging mutiny, my son is hostage in Gaza' and what she was referring to then was a video which Netanyahu's son Yair shared on Friday where a masked soldier, saying he's a reservist in Gaza, threatened mutiny if Israel gives order to leave Gaza before Hamas has been crushed."

Because it's my birthday today my favorite computers-related stuff store sent me a $10 voucher,
so I went to see what I might spend it on and it turns out that what they aaaactually sent me was awareness that with my recent new computer build (https://todon.eu/@b9AcE/112372984152993590) and considering already bought/not yet released upgrades I actually don't want anything new or to upgrade anything else (within any reasonable price range) right now.
Now that's an excellent birthday gift, that they didn't intend. :-)

It is important to keep in mind when following events as they unfold or are very recent, that what is known can change and that can change what is the known "truth", without there being any malice, disinformation or similar.
That's just how it works when people, always by definition subjective, convey what they have perceived so far.
If events make something change or more becomes known about the previous events, then the known truth about an event becomes different from the previously known truth.
It CAN be intentional disinformation or other malice, but it should not be assumed such as the primary reason for any such, unless a pattern has been established or an admission of such has been revealed.

USA's pier to land humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip of Palestine... has collapsed, due to waves.

Who could have guessed there could be waves on the Mediterranean Sea? Toootally unexpected.

video/mp4

b9AcE,
@b9AcE@todon.eu avatar

@richpuchalsky My speculation when it was announced that USA intended to build the pier was that the ulterior motive may have been to prepare to "evacuate" the Palestinians, which would then together with a following permanent refusal by Israel of return for the refugees as it has been for decades already for others, be yet another step in the direction of realizing the genocide clearly intended by Netanyahu and gang. For that, they would have wanted to keep it.

Or, it may have been just a cheap way for the Biden-administration to salvage votes for the upcoming election, from people with a functioning moral compass so refusing to vote for a crimes against humanity and genocide co-culpable politician.

But that is of course also just pure speculation.

One woman was killed and 5 other civilians were injured in Turkey's latest bombardment of Manbij.

Manbij is an Arab-majority area where many of those forcibly displaced to there as part of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and fellow proto-Fascists remain, now part of the self-liberated autonomous North and East Syria most widely known as Rojava, for which reason Erdoğan wants to continue the Armenian Genocide there.
There are similar attacks against Manbij almost every day for many years, almost exclusively directly targeting the civilian populace.

Manbij was self-liberated by primarily its own Manbij Military Council (MMC), which is one of the many organizations in the Syrian Democratic Forces, alongside the more widely known YPG and others.
Manbij being majority Arab with large Armenian, Syriac/Assyrian components was the reason why Rojava decided to officially change its name to "Autonomous North and East Syria", to reflect the desired core value and existing diversity by no longer having a Kurdish language word being the shared area's name when the Rojava Revolution had expanded through the Women's Revolution to areas no longer majority Kurdish populated.

Yet another reason why Windows 11 is simply not an option...
"Windows 11 Recall AI feature will record everything you do on your PC"
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-11-recall-ai-feature-will-record-everything-you-do-on-your-pc/
Microsoft claims that "Your snapshots are yours; they stay locally on your PC." but they can not promise that. They can't promise it won't be made a tool for ransomware extortions, seized by spy and repression forces, etc.
This is a threat.

b9AcE,
@b9AcE@todon.eu avatar

Some more good comments on Microsoft's new mandatory spyware "feature" upcoming in Windows 11 named "Recall",
from the latest just released episode of HW News by @GamersNexus.

If you believe you may ever use a computer running Windows from any time from just about now, such as borrowing one, lending one out, having one you used stolen or you using a public computer at e.g. a library, school or Internet-café for example, then this is extremely important, a threat against YOU and all those you communicate with through computers adding a risk of extremely high personal impact.

video/mp4

b9AcE,
@b9AcE@todon.eu avatar

It is especially those that might describe themselves as "I don't know much/anything pr even care about computers, so stuff like privacy news isn't for me" or similar, NOT the people with high interest in computers-related stuff who are at drastically more risk from the spyware that is currently being deployed as mandatory for Windows users by Microsoft.

People with high amount of knowledge will extremely likely just remove it even though Microsoft won't let us, as with other unwanted mandatory Microsoft-components in the past, or as many have indicated switch to some other platform,
but it's the low interest/capability people who will remain subjected to this extreme personal risk.
