I went to Craigslist in my local area for the first time in awhile. I used to like “best of” Craigslist because some of them were great, there still are some, but its just not the same. A community I used to visit had about half the number of posts as I remember, and of jobs and things for sale, I would say roughly half the...

Nope, I’ll even specifically avoid companies that I see or hear excessive ads for. When I needed to change car insurance a while back and had a list of options going, I immediately removed all the ones I could remember seeing advertising for.
Two reasons:
I have an unhealthy hatred of advertising.
They’re spending an absurd amount of money on digital spam as opposed to making their product/service better or cheaper. Some percentage of what you pay for in the product is to cover their advertising campaigns, and I prefer that percentage be as small as possible.
@26:07 he says as a business he’s considering Linux on his computers because of Windows privacy violations. It’s great to hear someone with such a wide audience talking about using Linux.
Linus mentioned that Emily (her new name) has been internally pushing for a Linux gaming revisit on a recent Wan Show, so hopefully something comes of that.
Also an upcoming tech upgrade video will be for someone who’s switching to Linux.
DankPods uses Linux on his gaming system, which I just found out recently. Seems like Linux is starting to gain traction in the content creator space now, which is neat.
Technically yes but if you need to re-terminate the end of a cable in the future without seeing the other end of it, it’s nice to be able to assume it was wired the standard way.
It I found an ethernet cable wired in the wrong sequence, I would re-terminate both ends immediately because otherwise it will be an annoyance in the future.
It’s insane to me that this is a hill Sony is willing to die on. So much goodwill to throw away just to collect a bit more data on users.
Just remember, if they’re willing to enforce this nonsense, you can be sure that there will be more nonsense to come. “Sorry everyone, Sony decided we need lootboxes! But our team is on the side of the players!”
I hate modern AAA games, I’m gonna go try out that new Stardew Valley update.
To play devil’s advocate, it’s not the slightest bit hard to see why. I’d almost be curious to see it happen.
The concerns of data collection and privacy are 110% valid, but it’s not like domestic cars are any better. It’s a Facebook/TikTok situation, do you want American companies doing super shady shit with your data, or do you want Chinese companies doing super shady shit with your data?
Do you want GM doing shady shit with your data or do you want BYD doing shady shit with your data? Either way, one data leak is all it takes for everyone to have access to your data.
The difference between the two scenarios is that you don’t need to use social media. Many Americans need a car due to our garbage public transport and non-walkable cities.
If actual competition is what it takes to make the American auto industry give a shit, then fuck it, let’s see what happens. If they can’t compete on price, then compete on privacy. Sell a dumb EV with physical dials and switches. I’d buy the more expensive car that doesn’t track everything I do.
Is this an irresponsible take that ignores long term consequences? Probably, but that’s the strategy for most companies nowadays and we need more EVs on the road ASAP (among a million other things to slow climate change).
The last device I own that doesn’t run an open source operating system is an iPad. I basically use it as a laptop most of the time with a keyboard case, but I do like being able to take just the screen to use as a drawing/note-taking tablet. I treat it more like a “convertible” device rather than a tablet alone....
