Bluetooth give a lot more information about your surrounding (what device your phone detect or connect, for how much time, distance from objects, etc.), not only from your phone alone, but from other people phones who have bluetooth on and e.g. never disable any tracking from google services too. And the Mac address for bluetooth never change, so any device (and tracking company) will know you is forever you. Bluetooth is a privacy nightmare, and this is totally a dark pattern. People not knowing what they’re doing is of course a thing, but it seems just a usual bad practice by google, who like to manipulate especially not tech-savvy people

I thank you for your effort in this post, and I appreciate anyone who try to give real and complete answer to this kind of question, but I’d like to point out that madaidan “guides” aren’t reliable, and shouldn’t be linked as useful source of information, since he usually just spread FUD. Nothing he even wrote is actually useful to real users and common people, and even if I understand he know what he’s talking about this doesn’t mean his interpretation is correct. Security isn’t absolute, and safety from any ideal danger that at this time no one even know how to exploit shouldn’t be the ultimate goal for everyone. If physical security concern you, you should encrypt your disk, but e2e isn’t really useful if you host your instance and use a VPN to connect (it’s not necessary even if you trust the 3rd party that host your data, actually)

Mmm… I still think you mean server side: if someone seize your server shouldn’t be able to read your file. If someone have physical access to your server while it is still turn on and not rebooted, it will have access to your files even with e2e turned on. E2e encrypt data while it is transfered from client to server (in case of nextcloud)

You’re right, I’m dumb. Nextcloud has a e2e plugin, but you have to lose a lot of functionality, and I still think it isn’t worth it if you host your own instance

I really don’t understand all those posts: I use nginx, apparmor, partially even modsecurity, I use collabora office official debian package, face recognition, email, update regularly (waiting for major upgrades for every app I use to be updated), etc. and literally never had a problem in the last 5 years except for my own experiment. True, only 5 people use my instance, but Nextcloud is rock solid for me

Se hai le versioni installate da fdroid puoi stare abbastanza tranquillo, mentre se le hai installate dal playstore ti consiglio di cambiare app al più presto. La compagnia che ha concluso l’acquisto è conosciuta per infarcire di pubblicità (e quindi di traccianti) le proprie app

Rende molte app sensibili inutilizzabili, vero, ma solo perchè queste ultime rifiutano di funzionare, non perché il root di per sè crei problemi. Ovvio che avere la possibilità di concedere poteri profondi ad alcune app è qualcosa che necessita di attenzione, ma non è che improvvisamente chiunque può accedere al tuo dispositivo dopo il root. Magisk (ma anche le soluzioni che c’erano prima) implementa molte misure di sicurezza per evitare che i privilegi di root siano facilmente scalabili, a partire dall’isolamento della sessione di root (ossia solo l’app a cui è stato concesso il permesso può utilizzare solo per uno specifico processo azioni che richiedano i privilegi di root), passando per le protezioni anti tapjacking, l’esecuzione solo dopo la verifica delle credenziali biometriche e moltissime altre misure tecniche a livello profondo. Essere consapevoli della pericolosità di concedere i privilegi di root è un conto, presupporre che un dispositivo rootato sia una porta spalancata a chiunque è un altro. Bisogna avere consapevolezza di quel che si fa, sempre, non demonizzare qualcosa solo perché da maggior controllo e responsabilità all’individuo

I use Firefox and Firefox Mobile on the desktop and Android respectively, Chromium with Bromite patches on Android, and infrequently Brave on the desktop to get to sites that only work properly with Chromium (more and more often - another whole separate can of worms too, this…) And I always pay attention to disable google.com...

So, if I want to access a website, google has to collect a record about me, and only if the fucking company approve my past behavior I can access the site. Of course if I don’t have any past records I can’t (easily?) access the website. Simply awesome.

C’ho provato. Montanelli scriveva bene e le sue conoscenze erano immense, c’é un motivo reale se é così famoso. Il problema é che i suoi bias e la sua visione del mondo sono tremendamente evidenti in qualsiasi cosa abbia mai scritto, e a un certo punto risulta stucchevole leggere filtrando tutta la sua ideologia personale. Prova, male non può fare, ma a una certa personalmente mi é risultato troppo faticoso
