Hi! I'm Craig, a sometime cartoonist, former graphic designer, and retired software developer. I love art, reading, photography, science, cats, music, movies, and gaming. I like playing bass and ukulele, and making music with my brothers. Recently I've been learning about SwiftUI and how to write software for Apple platforms...but then Baldur's Gate 3 came along...

Still trying to figure everything out. As one does. He/him.

I just had an idea for a neat thing Apple could do.

Y’know the little tabs that pop up when you select text in iOS?

It’d be cool if the device learned which actions you tend to choose in a given situation.

So, if you choose “Translate” more often than, say, “Format,” they could make that a little easier for you.

This is an idea that I just had.

@hotdogsladies Oh, yes, very much this.

@hotdogsladies There is no reason those arrows, found here and throughout the system, have to be so tiny. They're fine as mouse click targets, but not tap targets.

Landscape Apple Logo on iPad

"I think it could change"

Context: Yesterday, @macrumors had a story where employees were discussing whether Apple would ever change the orientation of the Apple logo to reflect the iPad being used more and more in landscape orientation.

Some clients have also reported success just doing whatever Don Henley is doing because his parts are also perfect.

There is this notion in futurism and scifi speculation conversations that "technologically advanced" species are less vulnerable to extinction.

I'm skeptical. Technology solves many problems but causes new ones.

The primary factors that protect against extinction are:

  1. Sheer numbers
  2. Dispersion
  3. Diversity

Technology can aid in improving these factors, spreading people over more continents, or worlds, increasing population.

But there are other ways to meet these goals.

Sonofasailor,

@mcc @futurebird Reminds me of the Great Filter hypothesis. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Filter
