Sent in response to FARCE & lack of accountability on .

This federal survey is a complete . My Dad got covid in hospital. He died from long covid cardiac arrest. My Aunt got covid in hospital & now suffers from long covid.....

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

@msquebanh @chris haven't participated, I wouldn't trust PHAC or any provincial health authority to handle ANY data - still gobsmacked Ontario is stopping ALL surveillance - wastewater is the last thing we have left - it's delusional

@augieray@mastodon.social avatar

My experiments going out with my CO2 monitor are discouraging. Tonight, with COVID in wastewater at its lowest in 11 months in my city, we went out to eat. We hoped for outdoor dining, but it rained, so we sat inside. CO2 readings:

4:30 pm: 50% crowd in a brewpub: 1548
5:45 pm: 75% crowd in a Mexican restaurant: 1341
7:45 pm: Long line at ice cream shop: 1896

I thought businesses upgraded air filtration & ventilation, but these readings encourage me to stay home. taught us nothing.

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

@augieray there is no incentive - either tax provisions, encouragement by public health, grants, or even public pressure

the entire clean air movement is being actively suppressed, you can't bring C02 monitors into schools in British Columbia, as a staff member or student - school boards, local, provincial and national politicians run away at the very suggestion

and it's literally the cheapest and simplest thing they could do

has hired McMillan at least six times over the last six years to advise on more than $6 billion US in transactions, including its takeovers of companies , & . It also represented a Paper Excellence subsidiary in a dispute with CN Rail.

Multiple experts said they felt the FSC's decision to hire McMillan was problematic.

@MatWright I have a heavy phone appointment with BC Health patient services complaints & I requested manager/supervisor attend meeting too. Is there any covid related concerns that you want me to mention, during my lengthy phone meeting? I'm still dealing with BC Emergency Comms screwing up on night my Dad died & me & family were extra traumatized by bully antimasker cop - who is president of Saanich Police Union. I found that out, after he traumatized us, in our own home, while Dad was dying.

@msquebanh hit indoor air quality hard - Covid, other airborne diseases, high C02 impacting quality learning and productivity, smoke etc. - there are new ASHRE standards, which no Gov seems to admit

Areas like Boston schools have standards, and public access web pages showing AQ in buildings - BC could easily do that - hospitals, schools, Gov buildings

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

@msquebanh it is literally the easiest thing any Gov can do, not hugely expensive, and who is going to blow back at that politically? Are they afraid of convoy types trying to occupy legislatures and city halls over 'woke' air?

(having said that, yes, those idiots would)

@msquebanh great band, incredibly under-rated - had a really odd moment meeting Greg Keelor - his taxi had broken down ahead of me in Vancouver, saw him take out a guitar, I pulled over and asked if he needed a ride (vague notion I knew his face) - he gratefully accepted as was late for rehearsal, drove him there and he asked for my email - got free tickets to a concert and invite to the after party - so fun

looks like most of British Columbia will get an even better show than last night, which was pretty spectacular - best viewing will likely start after full dark, 10:30pm

Something I've read of being a successful tactic in several primary sources from the '30s - '40s is using bureaucracy as much against a fascist state as they're trying to use it against you.

One of the traits that I feel helped get us where we are now is that people cede power far too easily. They despair or get cynical and just never try.

Bureaucratically drag your feet every chance you get to thwart shitty stuff. Not all resistance is the obvious stuff.

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

@meganL I've been in politics, Federal, Provincial - and watched new Govs flail because they simply failed to realize how deep the previous admin critically owned the bureaucracy, and especially communications

The students are just asking the schools to divest from Israel, until the genocide stops and Palestine has self-determination, like with South Africa…. Why is this considered differently? And is asking a university to change their investment portfolio cause for tasering them?

They’re tasering the students begging for…. peace.

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

@LALegault When my father was a senior UBC prof, they literally had a program to recruit South African academics, help get them out, get visas - we hosted a PHD candidate for months until his family could join (escape)

Now UBC is threatening faculty, student groups with penalties for protesting the Gaza war - I hope there is US/Canada campus strike - let the admins wallow in ethical failure

blogdiva, to random
@blogdiva@mastodon.social avatar

there are D.C. scum calling "pro-HAMAS protests". the minute anybody in the admin parrots that shit, all bets are off with .

so all liberals on here screaming no matter who, y'all better get your asses in gear and tell every single person in the White House to drop that shit immediately.

am not some magical Cassandra. i have +30 years experience with the treachery of Democrats against antiwar activists.

don't wanna lose in November? PAY ATTENTION.

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

@blogdiva hoping to expose this soon, Uni of British Columbia is apparently actively suppressing faculty, the student union, anti-war groups on campus from even expressing their own views on their own personal SoMe accounts - threatening potential disciplinary actions

We saw Admins lose the plot over Covid, and they have completely abrogated their duties of inclusion and academic freedom over campus Gaza protests

It's truly mind blowing - all this does is create a win for the fascists

Amber Alert made me jump - interesting it came through on the phones, but the TV just went blank for 30 seconds

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

have to ask British Columbia peeps - did you get that alert? And if you were watching TV did it come through?

We were watching Knowledge Network, just a blank screen as the alert was being broadcast

Looks to me like yet another emergency alert screw up

MatWright, to Taiwan
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

Eyes on Taiwan, lots of earthquake damage especially in Hualien City on the east coast, constant aftershocks, tsunami warning as far as Guam and the Philippines

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

east coast of Taiwan is a sharp mountain drop to an alluvial plain, so liquefaction played a role in building collapses

difference is Taiwan has major EQ building standards, so even if the building rocks off a foundation, it stays together, does not pancake, saving lives

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

@msquebanh oh, agreed - but at least in the urban tower residential/commercial areas the EQ building standards saved lives

on that, they are WAY ahead of us

a 7.7 hitting Vancouver or Victoria and watch the entire downtown get destroyed

folks - have any of you switched to for internet - after Rogers took over services?

I'm thinking of making the switch. I'd like to hear from others who made switch & what the experience was like.

MatWright,
@MatWright@mastodon.social avatar

@msquebanh not just ISPs, everything from groceries to getting gas is so limited to just a few providers they can fuck with prices and service
