Sweden is being asked to postpone its plans to send the Jas Gripen fighter aircraft to Ukraine by other countries in the air defense coalition. This decision is to prioritize and focus on the introduction of the American F-16 aircraft system in Ukraine. The first deliveries expected this year. Sweden's Defense Minister Pål Jonson states that the Gripen may become relevant in the future.

@noelreports Pondering the fact that Gripen would have been allowed to use against Russia's home soil, while the F-16 is likely to have its hands tied behind its back.

Gripen with its ability to land and takeoff from motorways would be much better suited, I feel, for UA's distributed airforces vs F-16 which is sensitive to foreign objects even on a full on airfield.

It always kinda scares me when I read certain comments. They’re not numerous, but I see more of them each year. They say things like « the woke EU », or the « EUssr », or « socialist EU ».

They’re generally there when I talk about the EU regulating big tech, or fighting abuses of dominant position, and I just don’t understand how anyone can link that kind of activity to being « woke » whatever that means today, or being « socialist » (which in these people’s minds probably means « commie »).

Lingondraken,
@Lingondraken@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP Don't let them use your platform to advertise themselves. It is not their "rights" to hijack your comments for their own.

Block them without remorse. It is moderation, not "censorship", no matter how they love to use that word.

And don't forget to stay awesome as usual. :)

@Ukrainenews Surrender to the RF = Occupation, ethnic cleansing and utter destruction. The infamous "Ruski Mir".

The RF has systematically broken every treaty and contract they have ever signed. A treaty with RF is not worth more than the paper it is written on.

#Pope #Francis has shown a shocking lack of understanding in this case.

Ok, with the gas stove thread, people won't stop asking why I'm not considering an induction cooktop. So here's another thread where I try to answer this.

Perhaps the bottom line is this: I'm a Midwesterner. It carries a lotta baggage.

To elucidate, first you should understand that I have tried induction! Not the best experiences of it, to be sure, but I've used two portable burners and found them both to be impressive (with a few caveats). But on the whole, not a game changer to me.

Lingondraken,
@Lingondraken@mastodon.social avatar

@TechConnectify Having been used to an installed Ikea induction stove, then moved to a place without one I bought a portable unit hoping to get the same experience... It was not. I don't know why they are different, the portable one seems to cycle harsher heat a lot more than the "smooth" and gentler heat from the fixed unit. They are most definitely not comparable.

The portable one is faster than the electric stove, but I prefer the latter anyway.

The Truth About Heat Pumps and Cold Weather. Heat pumps are versatile, efficient, and great for both heating and cooling … or are they? Whenever heat pumps are mentioned, critics bring up their ineffectiveness in the cold, so is that still... https://undecidedmf.com/the-truth-about-heat-pumps-and-cold-weather/

@Lingondraken@mastodon.social avatar

@mattferrell It is real silly there are "critics" (more like nay sayers) when heatpumps have heated Scandinavian homes since at least the 1990's... And they are by far better today than they were 30 years ago.

I’ve been experimenting with Shelly smart home products for the first time and am kind of blown away with the versatility. I wired up one of their relays to my ERV and now I can automate ramping up my system if humidity or CO2 levels are too high. It’s a bit on the geeky/DIY side of smart home tech setup, but damn … it’s pretty fun making a dumb ERV smart.

Hi, I'm stuck waiting on laundry to finish and am bored, so why don't I come on here and write some hot takes about YouTube?

I mean, I can think of several reasons, but too bad I'll do it anyway.

Knowing the leanings of the folks on this particular platform this is likely to spark some debate, but note that I'm not trying to paint YouTube as a saint - in fact, the first thing I want to talk about is a strategy they've taken which puts me and all YT creators in a weird place:

Lingondraken,
@Lingondraken@mastodon.social avatar

@TechConnectify In all honesty, I think YT Premium is a great deal for the amount of content available. Far better than wasting your time with ads.

However, being unable to pay and still view content anonymously is a deal breaker for me, personally. And honestly, the very nonchalant way they handle their ads makes me want to block them out of spite. Adverts for real products is one thing, but the sheer amount of scam ads just... No.

I de-activated my Twitter account today. I had decided to keep it without posting a while back, just in case anyone would try to use my handle to write weird stuff and impersonate me, but I realized there’s no way I’m ever going back to Twitter and posting anything there.

If someone impersonates me, well, since Twitter has become so ridiculous and toxic, I’m sure people will accept that it’s not me talking.

I wasn’t using this account, and hadn’t for something like a year, so, bye « X »!

Lingondraken,
@Lingondraken@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP Lets be honest, X is something I doubt you would ever sign up to today. Someone wanting to impersonate you could just as well do it on any of the other far right echochambers like gab or the ironically named truthsocial. Twitter died a long time ago now, you merely buried it today.

The other day I got home to my smoke alarms occasionally going off. I eventually discovered two things:

  1. Some newer interconnected alarms flash their power-on indicators after they've been triggered (and continue until you press the test button) so you can determine which one's the problem and

  2. A small spider next to the offending alarm

After... dealing with the spider, the nuisance alarms stopped. I can only assume it kept crawling into the sensor, setting it off, and crawling back out!

    BTW, folks who think the US standard plug is scary have clearly never encountered one of our range plugs before.

    (This plug is also often used for EV charging, supporting 9.6 kW continuously)

    Lingondraken,
    @Lingondraken@mastodon.social avatar

    @TechConnectify Reminds me of the European (?) Perilex plug, found typically for stoves/ovens https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perilex

    It is threephase 16A, so it will do the same 11 kW as the red industrial CEE plug.
