Vivziepop announced today that they’ve started recording the second season of . In celebration, I’m gonna post some favorite bits of animation from season 1.

Here’s Alistor dropping a piano on Lucifer, slowed down so you can see it.

KrajciTom,

@twipped

There is so much packed into the dialogue, songs, and visuals...and you point out several cases where slowing down reveals details you otherwise can't catch, especially on the first viewing.

Is Vivienne Medrano trying to do too much in the allotted time?

In some musicals the songs are used to amplify the feelings of a character..."I'm happy/sad!"...but many songs in #HazbinHotel drive and propel the plot by revealing important ideas or information. That's what makes these songs powerful.

Why can't they re-work the assembly line for their future 4-wheel EV that they mention here?

https://www.electrive.com/2023/03/31/electra-meccanica-stops-making-its-solo-focuses-on-four-wheeled-ev/

"Canadian EV company to buy back all three-wheelers it's sold since 2019 as it moves into four-wheeled machines"

"despite the cancellation of the Solo, its 235,000-sq-ft manufacturing facility in Mesa will not be sitting idle, as the company announced earlier this month a partnership with Volcon to assemble that company’s Stag UTV. That’s on top of previously announced assembly work that Electrameccanica will be doing on Volcon’s Grunt EVO and Runt LT."

"In addition to manufacturing issues, particularly in China, the Solo was plagued by compliance problems. It never was approved for sale in Canada due to headlight and airbag issues; and in the U.S., with its patchwork of state laws, the Solo was sometimes classified as a motorcycle, requiring drivers to wear a helmet in the enclosed cockpit."

One of the more interesting trends as we go into the climate crisis is that modern meteorology as we know it is coming to an end.

What's become evident with this winter is that they are all relying on a vast array of sophisticated weather models, but those weather models are really showing no accuracy anymore, particularly in the long-term. So any suggestions as to long-term weather trends are pretty inaccurate. this has pretty big implications going forward

KrajciTom,

@jimcarroll

Are there peer-reviewed scientific papers that you can point to that support this?

Thanks in advance.

KrajciTom,

Another option, which allows you to explore other parts of the electromagnetic spectrum...a modified consumer camera.

The silicon CMOS detectors can also sense into near IR (down to about 1 micron), and up a wee bit into near-UV (up to about .38 microns)

Typical conversion involves removing the Bayer color array filter. Now the sensor is able to capture images over that wide range...so you slap on various bandpass filters as appropriate.

What used to be a 3-channel camera is now single channel/monochrome.

Near IR is interesting for some stuff. It'll even detect hot objects...but they gotta be soldering iron hot.

Near UV is another world also.

One of several small shops that does camera mods:
https://monochromeimaging.com/

Note that sensitivity is peak in/near visible wavelengths, and drops off. (When I shoot near-UV I need loooong exposures...even in sunlight.)

Or you can spend big bucks and get dedicated cameras for other spectral bands.

KrajciTom,

@ai6yr

You can do it to just about any camera that uses a silicon CMOS sensor. That includes DSLR, mirrorless, even cell phones. You just need to find a shop that is willing to take the risk to open the camera and do a non-standard mod that blatantly voids your warrantee.

I got a used Sony a-6300 a few years ago and sent it off. The cost of the mod was greater than the price I paid for the camera.

Also note that camera lenses are typically designed to focus visible light well, not IR or near UV...so you may lose sharpness...or stop the lens down to get some of it back.

Also, anti-reflection coatings on lenses are optimized for visible light. Outside of the design band there can be lots of ghosting/lens flare.

Some folks do these monochrome mods to get a "poor man's Leica"...high-res, but not super-high price.

Some folks do a slightly different mod so that the camera still takes multi-channel 'color' photos, but they look like photos taken with Ye Olde Kodake IR Filme.

Remember when we let one far-right dude make up the whole critical race theory panic, and then reactionaries passed "anti-CRT" laws that were really anti-diversity laws, so that teachers were afraid to even teach about civil rights and the Holocaust, and then US students' knowledge of the Holocaust dropped precipitously? And it dropped the most where those anti-CRT laws were passed?

Well, what if we let the same dude make up a whole plagiarism inquisition against the Harvard president?

Is New Mexico a bit of an outlier in that regard?

There are large areas of rural precincts that vote blue. (But yes, southeast NM is ruby red...influence of neighbor Texas.)

First graphic is every voting precinct in the state, Nov '22 election results for governor.

Second graphic shows the population in each of the 2,000+ precincts so that you see where the population centers are located.

KrajciTom,

@Itty53 @venitamathias @mekkaokereke @mmlvx @valthonis

Please compare southeast NM to the rest of the state. There are plenty of rural/low population density areas in the southeast that are ruby red. Other parts of the state, especially northwest and north central NM have rural precincts that are much bluer...but still at low population density.

There are other (cultural, historical) factors at play, not just population/population density.

KrajciTom,

@timo21 @Itty53 @venitamathias @mekkaokereke @mmlvx @valthonis

I have looked at the voter turnout rates in Otero county NM, and the Mescalero Apache Tribe...has lower turnout than the county average.

I don't know what the statewide trend is, but my hunch and fear is that indigenous voter turnout rate is lower than the rest of the state.

Solstice sunrise sequence on Sierra Blanca peak in southern New Mexico.

First photo was taken in twilight, before sunrise.

Second photo was taken less than a minute after the first rays hit the snowy summit.

Third photo was taken when the intermediate terrain was getting first sun.

Final photo was taken when the foreground ridge caught first sun.

Note how not just the color of sunlight changes, but also the sky's color, and the growing contrast between sunny summit and shadowed terrain.

First sunlight on the summit. It's orange/pink hues only shine on the snow covered summit. All other terrain remains in shadow. The sky is also orange/pink.
Sun has risen enough to shine on intermediate terrain 20 miles away. The summit is brighter and the sunlight is yellowish.
Sun has risen enough to shine on the top of the foreground ridge. Sunlight is only slightly yellow. The shadows on the terrain are deep and blue tinted.
