Was the experiment really “a successful story” when the outcome was learning no EU agency cared about digital sovereignty enough to lead by example?

GDPR and DSA are great for changing the status quo of social networks.

But to build a better future, governments must fund, support, and use the alternatives.

@Ciantic @EDPS @Gargron Given the EU runs its own websites, I think it's capable of running its own social web profiles too. EDPS reasonably was not the right IT department to do so long term.

I think big community servers should be reserved for individuals and small organizations lacking the expertise/capacity/budget of running their own website, but I agree that any continued social web presence would be better than no presence.

According to the UN, Israel currently is killing or injuring 1 Palestinian child every 10 minutes.

Therefore, I (and over 1,000 music artists in Sverige) think Israel should not be permitted to participate in #Eurovision2024.

I hope Malmö police handle the protests better than how Stockholm’s police handled the BLM solidarity protest during the pandemic.

I feel IBM is more likely to reverse HashiCorp’s ̶B̶u̶l̶l̶ ̶S̶h̶i̶t̶ ̶L̶i̶c̶e̶n̶s̶e̶ Business Source License decision than HashiCorp’s leadership at the moment.

And if it doesn’t, likely will eclipse Terraform usage by 2026.

Why can EU companies not use US-based cloud infrastructure and SaaS products?

Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act allows the US government to force US companies to share foreign customer data without a warrant or disclosure.

There is no way to reconcile US govt surveillance with the EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights on privacy.

The US Congress wants its govt to be able to force companies to surrender foreign customer data. So it reauthorized 702.

@purism I’m an investor and supporter, but this account of history diverges from reality a bit. Windows 10 Phone was previewed in 2014 and released in 2015 with convergence as a feature. It supported an external display, keyboard, mouse. It introduced "universal apps" with responsive UI based on screen size. Microsoft accomplished it and shipped it, but abandoned it when the market didn’t buy it after 2 years of trying. I loved my Lumia 950 and appreciate you carrying the dream forward.
