Ok. With Korra in Fortnite, and re-opening wounds from the first time I tried to watch that show (how dramatic!), I think I'm gonna try and rewatch that show again... try to enjoy it.... (and probably fail)... and torture you all with my thoughts on a decade old show.

Day 1 (Yesterday): Santa was dying on a trampoline or something and gave me the deed to a farm. I hadn't settled on the idea of doing an ongoing journal yet, so this is the only picture I have of the day.

I cleared out some land. Made a chest for excess materials. Planted 15 parsnips, and ran around town trying to meet everyone to fulfill some social quest that would crush me with anxiety if this were real life. I ended the day by checking the weather (Sunny day tomorrow) and went to bed.

I like #gaming social media challenges, so I'm going to cross one over I did a while back.

Being suppressed for the longest time, being able to escape into a game was the only way I could really see and express myself. So, I sought out games with female characters.

So, this is my personal female #VideoGame character celebration challenge.

List a game for every letter of the alphabet. #AtoZ
The game must meet the following criteria:

• Must have a playable female character
• Must be a game I have personally played

Each day will bring with it a different game for each letter. Can I get the whole alphabet filled?

(EDIT: Thread is complete. If I'm boosting it. It's probably because I felt it was relevant at the time)

Been struggling with writing music and I wonder if I've maybe made a discovery...

I love metal. I listen to a ton of metal. I want to make the songs I'm working on metal.

When writing... through the process the songs become progressively more moody and haunting and less actually metal.

I'm finding that as much as I can do it... it feels inauthentic. It feels far off from my creative center. I rarely like the straight metal tracks I make. I almost feel like the heavy distortion and pounding drums need to be more of an accent than the main feature of my stuff.

Is this just me discovering "my style" or a case of struggling to get out of my comfort zone?

It's not like I haven't been trying for years to do styles out of my comfort zone.

So, now I'm asking... Should I drop the dream (at least for now) of putting together a straightforward metal project and just do what comes naturally?

It's this weird thing where I'm examining what I want to do vs what I think I'd actually be good at.

It's so weird... I don't want to make those songs... But I like them more than the songs I want to make.

Hrm.
I've avoided Nier: Automata because of the fanbase/fanart, but I just got curious and actually looked up a short video and... it kind of looks like what I wish Bayonetta 3 had been.

Anyone have any experience with it? How open is this? Hub based? JRPG styled? Level based with larger stages?

I was struggling with writing songs with vocals, so I went and grabbed Alter/Ego so I could use some synth voices to rough things out.

So far that has helped a ton. Since I have very little time when I'm alone and can just be loud, I can work on laying out the rough vocals silently on headphones.

Only problem is I find it pretty unstable. It crashes rather frequently.

I've been kinda simmering over an interaction I had like 4-5 years ago. I said I'd like to see a mainline Legend Of Zelda game where you play as Zelda. I got jumped (figuratively) by a few guys who didn't see the point, it's always been Link, and they didn't want it.

So, me, significantly more insecure, trying to be friendly, discussed it with them and we got to a point where it'd be ok if there was at least a choice between Link and Zelda.

No.

These fucking babyass shriveldicks can cope for one damn game where they're not catered to. I don't want a choice. I want a game that Link is fucking dead. D-E-D, Dead. It's all up to Zelda. We've had to put up with lifetimes of male as default, taking in media that centers around men. I'm tired of the consolation prize of "Well, we'll add a gender selection for you". Why is it always (hyperbole for effect) male character, or a choice?

You can deal with one game that's not all about serving you.

Just finished recording some Morrowind gameplay for my channel. Had following thought:

I hate it when a game's difficulty setting basically just boils down to adjusting a damage multiplier.

I'm looking at you, Bethesda.

I prefer it when the AI actually gets smarter, maybe enemy layouts change.

Something as simple as adjusting an enemy's reaction time can have a huge impact on difficulty.

Played Tears Of The Kingdom.

I had been playing it for hours and I got that feeling of "I'm good for now, I'm gonna go play something else", and then didn't touch it for a week.

I absolutely adore BOTW, and remember that it was a struggle to put it down, but I found myself feeling really concerned that TOTK just wasn't getting its hooks into me.

After hours, I finally feel that draw to go back to it. That intro is just way too long and overly hand holdy. It actually killed my excitement.

I dunno if it's a problem with the game itself or with my mental state. Like, there was a clear event in the game that caused my mind to finally flag that this was a totally new game and I knew nothing. It wasn't any of the new powers, it was when I was just running over to some trees to cut some wood and I won't spoil anything... but if you know... you know.

Maybe I felt the sky was limited in its appeal and was scared that the land of Hyrule below was all familiar territory, but no... that map has changed a lot.

We did Elder Scrolls tier lists on Discord so I figured I'd share my terrible opinion on here.

Honestly, Morrowind could probably drop down one slot, but I'm too nostalgic for it. I think each game does something different really well. I don't think there's a "best" TES game.

I got really... REALLY angry with Daggerfall.

Haven't played ESO or Redguard yet.

Kind of hoping to get "burn it down" and "happy go lucky" at the same time for some real "fuck you" energy.

"Ok... so apparently if I change my system's language and use a third party launcher after cracking the version I installed from the EA App the game won't crash on startup"

I am still not playing Command & Conquer. 😡​

It was working just fine the last time I installed it from Origin on the same PC. So... something broke it.

So, I finally got C&C working and I've been enjoying myself. Sad that every version that I've paid money for doesn't work. I had to rely on the community to get a working version. Luckily it was released as freeware years back.

So, I just got my Limited Run physical release of Doom Eternal (for Switch). It's my first time playing it and... something feels off.

I loved Doom 2016 from the get go but this one feels... The tone feels wrong?

I'm getting Doom 2 flashbacks. Yes, Eternal seems to basically be Doom 2 Redux, but I mean in terms of how I feel about it.

I've always preferred the first Doom over Doom 2. 2 did weird things with its level design that just sort of changed the tone of the whole thing. It felt more cartoony almost. Kind of sloppy.

I feel like Eternal is making the same "mistakes". I just put it in quotes because it could very well be just a personal preference thing. I haven't gotten far enough in this to be able to really pick apart the mechanics and crap.

Think I'm going to challenge myself to put together a little limited game prototype.

Give myself like a week to make something. Doesn't need to be fully polished, but should have graphics, sound, and be playable.

That kind of pressure should ensure I get it done and it'll help me get a bit more comfortable with a sort of workflow and I can transfer those habits to my adventure game.

Let's see what I can slap together by next Saturday. (I'm not going to be able to start today... and maybe not tomorrow either)
