I badly scratched this exposure while fumbling around in the changing bag, and I can't quite believe how much time I've spent cleaning up the scan given it's just a picture of a pile of detritus I found in the woods, but I love the lighting and wanted to save it.

Myths, folktales or horror stories in which people are turned into, or spliced with animals are a special kind of disturbing.

I thought it would be a fun challenge to paint a human combined with something as pretty and innocuous as a butterfly. Responses to "The Admiral" have so far been lukewarm, but I'm quite proud of him!

Next time you find yourself in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England, visit Uphill and climb the hill to the Old Church of St Nicholas. You'll find a graveyard with a view of the sea.

I took this picture there in 2019, and I got lucky with the light.
