I'm a former videogames journalist and critic that specialised in MMOs and online games.

These days, gaming sits alongside parenting and family life. I still clock up time in WoW, FFXIV and EVE, but I'm also on mobile with Genshin Impact too.

I'm also regularly playing Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, and I've got into miniature painting (mostly Warhammer 40K).

Good deed done.

One of my son’s close friends had a broken scooter, and his mum was asking if I knew anywhere that could fix it. So I offered to take a look.

Back wheel was completely busted - crushed bearings, rusted housing, the works. Ordered a replacement part off the internet, arrived today, and all sorted.

My son’s friend gets his scooter back, and his mum doesn’t need to find the money for a new scooter :)

Good an email from Meta for developers about the Quest 1.

You will not be able to upload builds for new apps that only support Quest 1

Builds for new apps that support other Quest devices along with Quest 1 will be able to be uploaded, but Quest 1 support will be blocked

New apps will not be listed in the catalog of Quest 1 apps in the Meta Store

Quest 1 users will not be able to search or purchase new apps created after April 30, 2024

Looks like daddy’s got himself a new paperweight.

CDN update!

7 days in and we've got some interesting stats. Half a terabyte of bandwidth per week is definitely manageable from a cost perspective. And serving up nearly a million requests at almost 90% cache hit rate is phenomenal.

That said, there have been snags. The number of members here experiencing image load problems is significant, and it should have been something that I anticipated and planned for. If there's a lesson to learn, it's this one.

I appreciate that it’s very annoying when you have to sign in to everything again though :(

Delivery tracking says "driver is 1 stop away" driver sits at the same spot one block away for a goddamn hour.

App now says "driver has several other deliveries before you" as he drives away.

These damn tracking apps are worse than not having any idea.
