@xot that's how some DMA works. DMA does not always work like this on every system. Famously, the Sega Genesis featured something called Blast Processing, which is the ability for the 68000 and VDP to access the same bus at the exact same time during DMA, so you can write directly to the scanline during active scan to drive it at 8bpp, despite the Genesis only formally accepting 6bpp color.

The bad news: using the blitter blocks the #68000 until blitting is done, making the hardware act as though it was a software routine in the end.

I HATE #Onions so incredibly fucking much, jfc. The only food item that completely ruins a meal for me. I cannot stand them, they make me gag. I can't say enough how much I can't stand them. It's not even enough to "pick them off" because I can still taste the juice on whatever they were on.

doing some #maintenance on my #Arcade #Cabinet before moving it into my #TinyHouse. I've been working on this arcade cabinet for over 20 years now, I got it when I was 13 years old from a warehouse where it was rotting away for $25. It was originally a #Wonderboy cabinet from #Sega. I have full #JAMMA wiring inside and it runs real boards, but there is also a modern #PC inside for #Steam releases like #MortalKombat. The #Marquee animates, which is my favorite part!

I just heard on the news a representative from #ERCOT, the non-elected governing body that control's #Texas' electrical grid, that citizens of #Texas shouldn't worry because, since 2021, they've added enough power to the grid for 600,000 additional homes.

Except, oops, Texas added 250,000 homes in 2021, 2022, and 2023. So more energy for 600,000 homes, except they've added 750,000 homes in that time span.

#Texas and #ERCOT sucks so fucking much.

There's very little in terms of people #promoting a #brand, or #ENGAGEMENT or whatever, it doesn't feel fake. Posting on here isn't a #job for people. It seems many who are into #PC #Gaming don't really seem to know that #Shader #Compilation #Stutter is basically a #Windows problem that largely doesn't exist in #Linux. Shader Compilation Stutter occurs because shaders need to be compiled from source for every computer on the CPU itself, which takes real-world time. It's a "nine women can't make a baby in 1 month" problem, where the brute strength of your CPU doesn't matter, it'll still take time.

#Rocky II has the best #training #montage in the series, especially when seen back to back with Rocky I. After 3 1/2 hours of nothing but every reason to doubt Rocky, finally another person believes in him, the only person whose opinion he cares about, and it fuels Rocky to victory. That shot with the kids running behind him makes me want to run through a brick wall.

I love it when #Steam rolls out new features I didn't even know existed. Like they now have this new feature where you can copy a game installed from one computer running steam onto another, which is much faster than redownloading the game. For most people this would be pointless, EXCEPT if you have a #SteamDeck, then it becomes incredibly useful. Because you can keep games stored locally on your PC, then transfer them to the Deck super fast to swap out games. Cool feature!!

The original #SegaCD version of #Lunar The Silver Star remains far and away my favorite version. I dislike the story changes the made to Silver Star Remake, and prefer the battle system of the original. Most importantly, I think the original Sega CD opening video completely, utteraly blows away the #PSX and #SegaSaturn opening videos.

Wrote an OpenGL shader that draws lines correctly. As in, not using GL_LINE in wireframe mode, it'll actually take a series of points in an Shader Storage Buffer and extrapolate a quad out of them to render 2 thin triangles as a line. Computers the angle between lines to create a correct miter joint for smooth spline/curve rendering. I can pass a thickness and it'll all just work. This took a lot of tinkering:
