When I was young, I used to have a t-shirt of the comic where a dog is trying to lure a cat into a dryer with a sign that says “CAT FUD”. I mostly encountered his comics in a similar way. In bookstores, posters, etc. I didn’t even know the name of it at the time. So I agree it felt like a cultural thing back then to me.

[News] Wisconsin lawsuit asks new liberal-controlled Supreme Court to toss Republican-drawn maps (apnews.com)

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A lawsuit filed Wednesday asks Wisconsin’s newly liberal-controlled state Supreme Court to throw out Republican-drawn legislative maps as unconstitutional, the latest legal challenge of many nationwide that could upset political boundary lines before the 2024 election....

Let’s go! I live in WI, and we’ve all known how important the Supreme Court justice election was. There was nothing but talks about maps leading up to it. And we’ve been waiting for action since the day the election ended.

Continuous operation of a general purpose relay?

Hello, I have a circuit that will need to return connected hardware to a default state if power is lost. The hardware can handle continuous voltage, so I’m thinking a simple solution would be to use a battery to provide that fallback power source. To avoid draining the battery, I’d like to connect it through a relay on the...

Find a latching relay. I built something similar where I had a battery powered circuit that needed to be on for a long time. This is different than making a latching relay from a normal relay. A latching type relay uses a pulse. You send a short pulse down the line and it flops over. The datasheet will tell you the pulse width.

I heard it years ago. I think from Tumblr. So like 6 years at least

I’ve been getting emails from the superintendent about this. It’s very annoying.

“Dear MASD Community,

Earlier today, Judge Lynn Adelman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin granted a temporary restraining order prohibiting the Mukwonago Area School District from implementing Policy 5514 - Student Privacy in Restrooms and Locker Rooms. The text of the judge’s order is below. The District will continue to defend Policy 5514 in the interest of protecting the safety, privacy, and wellness of all students. We will also continue to keep the community informed as this case proceeds through the litigation process.

TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER signed by Judge Lynn Adelman on 07/06/23. IT IS ORDERED that plaintiff’s motion for a temporary restraining order is GRANTED. The Mukwonago Area School District, Superintendent Joe Koch, and all officers, employees, and agents of defendants, are hereby restrained from: (1) enforcing against plaintiff any policy, practice, or custom that denies plaintiff access to girls’ restrooms at school and school-sponsored events; and (2) taking any formal or informal disciplinary action against plaintiff for using girls’ restrooms at school and school-sponsored events. (cc: all counsel)(kmr)

Dr. Joe Koch Superintendent Mukwonago Area School District”

His email address is on the school board website in case someone wanted to email him back and let them know how you feel. I’m sure he would appreciate any feedback.

NES RGB/s-video outputs & power input no-cut mods in 2023? ("Silver Box" replacements) (lemmy.world)

I have an NES front-loader where I fried something in the “silver box” that handles power and A/V (this NES part has no consistent name in the repair/modding community, that I can tell, so I’m calling it the front loader’s “silver box”)....

I have one that I actually designed myself. I did it years ago. Unfortunately, there was a little bit of static on screen when the noise channel played notes. I have a second version with a 4 layer board, but I never got around to testing it. If you know someplace I can get a working, virus-free, version of Altium I could finish it. Otherwise I have to go learn KiCAD. github.com/mspinksosu/NES-Power-Board

SR-71 speed check

One time we were going fast

a small plane got on the radio and said “how fast am i going”

the tower said “you are going fast”

and then a bigger plane got on the radio and said “haha i think i am going faster how fast am i going”

and the tower said “you are going a little faster”

and then a jet fighter was going really fast and talked like a really cool guy and said “hey there, I sound like a cool guy, tell me how fast I’m going”

and the tower said “you are going very fast” but he sounded totally normal

And then I wanted to say something but that was against the rules, and then the other guy in my plane said “hey tower, are we going fast”

and the tower said “yes you are going like a million fast” and then the guy in my plane said “I think it’s a million and one fast” and then the tower said “lol yeah ur plane is good”

and then I said “did we just become best friends”

and the other guy said “yes”

All Gameboy Advances play GB, GBC, and GBA. The best GBA is the SP model AG-101 which has a factory backlight screen. However, there are tons of modifications available for Gameboys out there. I say get a used GBA and go to https://www.retromodding.com/ and go to town on it. Customize it the way you want

For ROMs only, the absolute best way to play is to get a Nintendo 3DS or 2DS and install home brew software. And as a bonus you can play the entire DS and 3DS library as well.

FYI the Nintendo DS can play GBA games, but it does not support GB or GBC.

I know you said you wanted handheld, but for anyone else reading my absolute favorite way to play is with a Gamecube and a Gameboy Player! It actually plays all GB, GBC, and GBA games! Gameboy Players can be cheap, but the boot disc is expensive. To get around this there is home brew software for the Gameboy Player that is very good, although I haven't tried it myself. To use it you need an Action Replay and a cheap SD card to GC memory card adapter. The software will boot the Action Replay first, then boot whatever is on the SD card. (I bet there are ways to load roms too but I haven't looked). I play with a Raphnet SNES to Gamecube adapter.
