How is everyone handling the 2FA requirement for GitHub? (docs.github.com)

Just wondering what people are using to meet the 2FA requirement GitHub has been rolling out. I don’t love the idea of having an authenticator app installed on my phone just to log into GitHub. And really don’t want to give them my phone number just to log in....

Dymonika,

I don’t love the idea of having an authenticator app installed on my phone

For anything? Why not? Surely you don’t believe SMS-based TOTP is safer, right?

Dymonika,

“Time-based One-Time Password” literally says nothing about the delivery method. Who said it can’t involve remote sending?

And what would you call it, then, SOTP?

Anyway, regardless of the terminology-nitpicking, my point still stands.

Dymonika,

Do you think the SMS codes are not time-based on the companies’ ends? How are they deriving the digits, then?

Dymonika,

Interesting, I didn’t know that.

Dymonika,

It just keeps getting better and better. As far as I know, it pioneered quoting parts of messages inside replies; I wonder how many other chat apps will catch on and mimic it.

Is Vencord superior to Discord in the web browser?

EDIT: Never mind; it has browser extensions! vencord.dev/download/

Dymonika,

Wait, kbin.social is permanently dead?

How do I give permanent permission to an extension that asks for permission on every website visit?

I have the an extension installed for Firefox and I see the green dot under my extension menu on every website visit and everytime I reload a website indicating that it asks for permission to read data on that website again. When I hover over it it tells me that I can allow it for this visit and the cog wheel menu has the option...

Dymonika,

I’m curious about what the extension is. Anyway, if you’re on Windows, you could potentially build an AutoHotkey script to automatically click that whenever it comes into view.

Venmo/ Paypal Alternatives (kbin.run)

I've long been annoyed that everyone, including myself uses Paypal/ Venmo for moving money around. What alternatives do you find useful? Here's a list (https://alternativeto.net/software/venmo/). GNU Taler looks viable (https://taler.net/en/index.html). I would love to have your thoughts!...

Dymonika,

Zelle is the closest acceptable alternative to PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App.

Dymonika,

It’s by Noodlecake Studios, so it’s a port of a mobile game.

Dymonika,

What will stop bots from coming here? Registration filters and user reports?

Dymonika,

Kbin is constantly spammed with “buy online drugs here” links.

Got examples? I’ve never seen this once as a Kbin user.

Dymonika,

Watched the slice-of-life dramedy about cancer 50/50 and it’s now one of my top films. I picked it because it’s leaving Kanopy.com in a couple of days and the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes were high enough to risk it, and it sure delivered. It was real edutainment based on the scriptwriter’s own experience with cancer at a young age, apparently. I recommend it to everyone!

Dymonika,

Money is strong in the world of marketing, I suppose.

Dymonika,

It’s fine. I use NetGuard myself. The bigger issue is with apps that require a connection to run.

Dymonika,

Who is for it who’s tech-savvy (and is not a celebrity)? I can’t think of a single person.

Dymonika,

99% of the milk I’ve been drinking over the past decade has been almond milk 🤷🏻‍♂

How do you handle your passwords?

I rely on Bitwarden (slooowly migrating from… a spreadsheet…) and am thinking of keeping a master backup to be SyncThing-synchronized across all my devices, but I’m not sure of how to secure the SyncThing-synchronized files’ local access if any one of my Windows or Android units got stolen and somehow cracked into or...

Sorry, just saw this, and just checked; wow, it’s gone from Firefox’s add-ons! Strange… the original link was this, but it’s broken now.
