There’s a lot of commentary about the film The Idea of You bc Anne Hathaway plays a 40 year old mom who is attractive.
I have not seen the movie, but as a mom of 2 who is also older than Anne Hathaway, the seemingly widespread surprise(?) that women of a certain age can still be engaging & lovely seems so silly.

@ErikJonker@tinkebell Het probleem is dat dát een drogreden is om deze framing van antisemitisme te gebruiken. Er zijn altijd individuen die extremere opvattingen hebben en zeker bij activistische situaties. Bestrijd je de hele groep om die reden, versterk je hun positie. En dat gemaskerde? Er zijn mensen die deze protesten willen wraken door individuen ervan ‘aan te pakken’… Ik snap wel dat je niet met je kop in de media wil komen als je onterecht als extremist geframed wordt.
@ErikJonker@tinkebell Natuurlijk niet… het gros van de demonstranten is ook vredelievend. Bij de eerste demonstratie waren het zelfs tegenstander-provocateurs en de ordehandhavers zelf die de zaak escaleerden.
In Spanje gaat het bijvoorbeeld veel gemoedelijker op de campus. Daar heb je ook echt wel de extremen ertussen. En ideeën kun je niet bestrijden. Wel agressief gedrag.
@ErikJonker Als je als demonstrant niet verkeerd geframed werd en je met deze demonstraties niet juist heel kwetsbaar in de media kwam daardoor, zouden deze demonstranten er net zo over denken, Erik.
@mercedesallen Nonsense… 😒 In the same way there’s people measuring it in suicides etc… but one can’t actually measure the positive human factor as such. It’s complex and personal. Besides… it’s a process taking time and effectively different between all of us. The only thing I can say… I feel like being me enough to not be bothered about dysphoria anymore. I can also say that it has always been a physiological discordance… never being bothered with role patterns anyway.
@ErikJonker That’s not the kind of use I’m sceptical about. 🤓 it shouldn’t be used for content creation. It’s ideal for integrated analytics in a supportive role. Perfect tool for comparative analytics on very large datasets. Especially if the algorithms keep track of their derivations so it will be self explanatory… I’m mainly sceptical about people using it as an excuse to avoid their own responsibilities. People who have the means but not the understanding, using it for decision making. 🧠🔨
Had a big argument about how to design the synthesiser with my friend/partner on the project. One part of it was about how the plug-in modules should look. He really wants them to be enclosed with a chassis. It might scare the non-technical customers to see circuit boards, which is true, but also, absolutely hilarious.

@ErikJonker Oh zeker, maar dat houdt onze overheid niet tegen om de situatie zo in te kleden dat die mensen individueel moeten aantonen om onder die voorwaarden te vallen, zonder de middelen daarvoor te hebben. Dat kost dan geld, tijd moeite en een internationaal toetsingsproces, omdat binnen de nationale wetgeving bij strikte toepassing rechters alleen maar toetsen of de overheid nog binnen de lijntjes kleurt. Ze geven in de regel geen oordeel over rechtvaardigheid, maar wel rechtmatigheid.
Ik lees weinig of niets de laatste maanden over hoe het nu gaat met het initiatief GPT-NL van onder andere TNO, SURF, NFI. Hoe staat het daarmee, hoe gaat men voldoende trainingsdata verzamelen van hoge kwaliteit, in lijn met onze regels en normen (Bigtech houdt zich daar niet aan) ? Wat wordt er eigenlijk ontwikkeld en op basis van welke modellen ?

There is more than LLMs, transformers and generative AI. Sometimes the discussion about AI seems to be very narrow. Don't forget there are many other machine learning technologies available like neural nets, decision trees, SVM etc. I especially like Lecun's V-JEPA as far as i can understand it.
