"It is academic audacity, born of imperial ways of knowing, that enables a historian to act as if it doesn’t matter that victims and their descendants know what was done to them; it doesn’t count as “known” unless it is articulated in academic language by a credible expert." Fascinating interview. https://www.guernicamag.com/miscellaneous-files-ariella-aisha-azoulay/ #Histodon #history #resistance

“Researching and writing this story about the Dyatlov Pass Incident was a bit like my more recent obsessive dive into the world of the Scottish witch hunts—the secret records, the mood of terror, the circling myths—but at the time I believed fiction was a better vehicle for arriving at a truth.”

14 years after the publication of my story about the Dyatlov Pass Incident, I consider the use of atrocity in fiction.

“My own ordeal was my link to those accused of witchcraft in the 17th century. Writing about women’s tribulations in a culture that deliberately disbelieves women’s pain gave meaning to the meaningless anguish I faced daily in my own life as well as the women's lives I researched.” I revisit my thoughts on HRT, crones and hope on World Menopause Day

The North American Edition of Ashes and Stones arrived today—published by Pegasus Books in the US on October 3rd. The stone on the cover is the Nicnevin stone in the village of Monzie. Named after the legendary woman burnt as a witch named Kate Nicnevin who also shares a name with Nicnevin, the mythic Scottish witch-goddess and the leader of the wild hunt in lore. According to Sir Walter Scott, she is the “Scottish Hecate.” #witches #WitchesOfMastodon #bookstodon #NewBook #Scotland #folklore

I like this silly “Memoji” of me in my FFFP3 mask. It’s cute and reminds me of a time when a mask was so normal, a huge corporation made it a virtual accessory option. The full range of emotions are visible on the little emoji despite the mask. It wasn’t that long ago this was something we did for each other- masking & testing.(continued in comments) #covid #MaskUp #ChronicIllness #DisabilityAwareness #DisabledJoy

“Crip Up the Kitchen” aims to make home cooking more accessible for disabled and neurodivergent cooks (and would-be cooks).

andrea bennett caught up with author Jules Sherred about “lazy” assumptions, the heroism of a pressure cooker, diet culture and more. 🥘

@ravetracer_22 Yes--I mean, it's not my work. It was shared on a disability group I belong to! It seems customisable, right?
