I remember when we bought a house 8 years ago (seems like a lifetime now) talking to the mortgage broker and he basically said they straight-up ignore medical debt because everyone has it and nobody would ever get a loan if it was considered. It’s utterly insane to me how the wealthiest nation in the world can’t keep its citizens healthy and out of debt.
Sure, the first year (or two) of COVID were wretched, but most of those barriers have since cleared — yet I’m still struggling. I’ve noticed the same with a number of people within my family and neighbourhood....
I worked for an electric utility for nearly 2 decades and now am a consultant helping power companies with grid modernization. This is the part that terrifies me, we are WOEFULLY unprepared for an event like this. A number of times over the years a strategic transformer reserve has been floated to congress with no movement. Even things like a large scale, coordinated attack against a bunch of substations at once could cripple the US power grid for months or even years. Transformer lead-times can be as long at 70 weeks last I knew. Obviously, in the event of a large-scale event the government could step in and throw resources to speed that up but it would be FAR better to have a ready-to-go supply we could draw from.
I love how freaking classy they are about these lawsuits too. It’s really just “knock it the fuck off guys.” They are asking for a whole $1 in damages:
We are also seeking a declaratory judgment that the Shelby County Board of Education’s actions violate the First Amendment’s free speech and free exercise clauses, nominal damages of $1, and a permanent injunction against the district’s discriminatory practices.
Joe Biden should have pardoned Donald Trump on all federal criminal charges the moment they were announced, the Utah senator and former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney said....
So here’s a radical idea Mitt, perhaps the previous president shouldn’t have committed numerous crimes? Then there wouldn’t be any need to prosecute him…
Or, apparently, kill everyone in congress that disagrees and would vote to impeach. If presidential immunity is absolute that would be a legit strategy.
Or the GQO calling peaceful protests about Gaza insurrections and exactly the same as Jan 6th. Fascism needs to muddy the waters to drum up as much support as possible. Keep people dumb and angry.
In before some company pops up to “centrally manage” all this data that 90% of the hospitals start using then said company gets hacked. There is exactly zero chance this gets stored securely and a minuscule chance it gets stored locally.
