WTF kind of logic is this? Are you saying he shouldn’t even try and just sit with his thumbs up his ass rather than try to accomplish good things because a court may block it? Should we all just throw our hands up and give up doing anything at all?

Justice Dept. makes arrests in North Korean identity theft scheme involving thousands of IT workers (apnews.com)

The Justice Department announced Thursday multiple arrests in a series of complex stolen identity theft cases that officials say are part of a wide-ranging scheme that generates enormous proceeds for the North Korean government, including for its weapons program....

So here’s a radical idea Mitt, perhaps the previous president shouldn’t have committed numerous crimes? Then there wouldn’t be any need to prosecute him…

Our elecrital grid is frighteningly vulnerable.

Having worked for an electric company and am now in consulting doing grid modernization you likely don’t even know a fraction of how vulnerable it is… It’s some seriously scary shit.

210 Ah cells to 90% in 12 minutes.

Assuming I can math early on a Monday morning:

90% of 210 is 189

189 / 12 is 15.75

So they charge at 15.75 an Ah per minute. Not sure how that compares honestly.

I work for a 350k+ company doing grid mod for energy utilities. The head of our division had an “all hands” meeting earlier in the week saying based on client requirements we all need to be in an office or on the clients site.

The head of our group of ~20 (my bosses boss) scheduled a meeting right after and said ignore that. Our team is kicking ass and our current client has not such requirements (other than onsite at their location for training/go-lives which is reasonable). Furthermore, he said unless it was out of his hands this could be the normal with new clients.

We have a killer team from all over the US (many of whom are nowhere near the client or our company offices). This team would dissolve quickly if that mandate ever hit us.

My point is, there ARE still people in upper(ish) management that understand to keep top talent you have to be willing to accept or embrace work from wherever. Hell, during the last go-live last hear he basically said unless absolutely required he didn’t WANT any of us on-site with the client. He wanted us all comfy, no jet-lag, in our normal settings to be able to troubleshoot issues. Granted, I worked nearly 80 hours that week, but that’s not a normal week. I usually work 30-40.

lol and holy wall of text batman. I didn’t mean to write that much but it’s here and I don’t want to delete it.

I really don’t know how people are existing in today’s hellhole of a capitalistic landscape. I’m fairly lucky with a good-paying job and a lowish house payment. I’m still paying a lot more for food and whatnot than I did before covid.

It was actually really crazy last night when I was out. With my eyes I could just barely make out the white lines in the sky. Long exposure on my phone (~5 seconds) and it looks TOTALLY different. I would have never guessed there was all those purples and reds there. If my brother hadn’t texted me and said pull out your phone and take a picture I would have gone back inside and just shrugged.

It may just be the light pollution where I am. I’m not too far from a pretty large city. I’m thinking that washed out a lot of what I could see with the naked eye.

Also, I hope you son is doing well! It’s a hell of a process.

80% seems awfully low, I was thinking 90 or 95%. I know middle management had to find a way to stay relevant when everyone went remote during covid but damn do you not know how to use fucking powerpoint?! It’s a presentation compliment, you don’t just read every damn thing word for word off the slides.

Tornadoes Are Coming in Bunches. Scientists Are Trying to Figure Out Why. The number of tornadoes so far in the United States this year is just above average. But their distribution is changing. (www.nytimes.com)

While the timing of this trend lines up with the planet’s rising temperatures, scientists are hesitant to definitively attribute tornadoes’ clustering behavior to human-caused climate change....

My state of Ohio, as of April 22nd, has had 35 confirmed tornadoes (and I know there are quite a few still to be officially added). The average for the ENTIRE YEAR is 22. We had 57 last year. Something is not OK…

How to opt out of the privacy nightmare that comes with new Hondas (sherwood.news)

There are lots of reasons to want to shut off your car’s data collection. The Mozilla Foundation has called modern cars “surveillance machines on wheels” and ranked them worse than any other product category last year, with all 25 car brands they reviewed failing to offer adequate privacy protections....
