Back then I was Playing Doctor with the girls down the street. This prudish puritan view so many have is dangerous and debilitating to healthy relationships.
"McDonald’s has averaged 15 violations per 100 stores, ranking among brands with the highest rates of violations... Franchised models may have higher rates of child labor violations because they’re under pressure to limit labor costs to offset steep fees" https://wapo.st/4223LJQ
Stress in adolescence and early adulthood may contribute to the development of cardiometabolic diseases later in life, according to a new study led by Fangqi Guo at USC.
Researchers looked at the health information of 276 participants from the Southern California Children’s Health Study from 2003-2014 and a follow-up assessment from 2018-2021.
Participants with a consistently high adolescence‐to‐adulthood stress pattern had greater overall cardiometabolic risk, percent body fat, and odds of obesity in adulthood, compared with those with consistently low perceived stress. In adulthood, higher perceived stress was associated with increased overall cardiometabolic risk and higher blood pressure.
Absenteeism has nearly doubled since the #pandemic. With state and federal governments largely abdicating any role in getting #kids back into classrooms, some #schools have turned to private companies for a reimagined version of the truant officer.
@ninavizz@ProPublica And you're missing my point -- student interest often has nothing at all to do with attendance, and attendance in turn often has nothing to do with performance, yet attendance is placed before performance in whether or not course completion credit is granted.
@eyrea I totally missed your point, actually; ty for clarifying! I actually went to the best high school in the world, which was a public alternative school. It was dumb luck I had that option, because the high school I was supposed to go to, was hideous. Low teacher:student ratios created opportunities for teachers to become second parents. Which, our teachers welcomed. But, yes, bigger social problems need to be honored. 🙏🏻 @ProPublica
