wow, had no idea about plugdata ! a fork of puredata aiming for compatibility while giving it a huge facelift! maybe i will switch over now ... #puredata#pd
I have said it before and I'll say it again: PlugData is truly a pleasure to use. If I was starting all over again with computer music, I'd start with this.
Today, I had the wonderful pleasure of having #millerpuckette the original developer of the #max software come and speak to my #creativecoding students! I know nothing about max, #maxmsp , or #puredata / #pd (my avenue into code had nothing to do with music) but I followed along and made this little #patch. He was incredibly generous with his time and expertise and he rolled into the room rocking a laptop running Linux which impressed more than a few students. Seriously such an inspiring visit!
Revisited some older music software I made in #puredata and #unity3d. I swore it'd be the last time I'd use Unity. We'll see.
It was very fun to explore this work and see how much effort I'd put in. I still think it's a fun way to explore #generativemusic https://youtu.be/21fib66GrM0
I once read a paper on sythesising cricket sounds using fm and am synthesis just for a live generated background effect in a game that no one played. #puredata#unity3d
@rml True. I remember years ago when people were describing #Max and #PureData as "visual" PLs. But the graphic, visual aspect was completely secondary: they are dataflow PLs. And you can describe the same signal processing in Faust, SC, etc. There's a difference there that's way beyond what it "looks like".
I saw a post about #Puredata fitting with #Solarpunk philosophies. I have a dream project of building a terminal based interface for a PD patch that is run on a rPi. Using an e-ink screen as a display and a recycled usb keyboard. All powered by a solar panel, linked to a small battery. The patch needs to be usable for a range of musical styles.
I am starting a more luxurious version of a #Puredata related group on my Hubzilla.
It is intended for professionals and experienced users from realms of serious (not just dry) contemporary, experimental, avantgarde, passionate music making & composition.
Various related styles included, of course.
Thinking of making a tutorial of using pdsend to control #Pd patches using a terminal textual interface. Wonder if anyone would be into that. #puredata
