As Parker Molloy reports, Nate Silver, who has described himself as “somewhere between a libertarian and a liberal," has joined the "manufactured panic" club about Biden's age — Biden being THREE YEARS older than Trump and in far better physical shape.
The phrase "manufactured panic" is Charles Blow's excellent summary of the media meme that Biden is too old.
Nate Silver has gone a long way by touting himself "just a numbers guy," but it's clear, as Molloy says that he has aspirations to punditry — and that he's one of those mainstream media gurus who love to play the both sides game essentially to keep the left wing of the Democratic party in check — and to aid the Republican party without admitting this is what he's doing. Very Serious People hang on his words.
As someone who is also gay but who does NOT live in Silver's protected cultural bubble in the northeast — rather, in a solidly red state totally controlled politically by Republicans and their white evangelical base — I have a certain feeling about comfortable "libertarian-liberal" white gay men living in protected bubbles aiding the Republicans with both-sides rhetoric….
When they themselves do not have to live in places controlled by the GOP.
The senior management at #FiveThirtyEight is out as part of Disney's latest cuts. This includes #NateSilver, whose contract expires soon, along with the underlying models and data that power the website.
