Hello, fountain pen peoples: any recommendations on how to clean out a moldy fountain pen? Perhaps I’m not searching well enough, but I haven’t found a definitive answer or instructions. I saw a few mentions about using a bleach solution to clean, but no measurements on bleach to water ratio. Supposedly this bleach solution could be used to clean fountain pen parts like the cap also, but I’m not sure if it’s really okay. #FountainPens #cleaning #mold #yuck

@jezlyn
Flushing the pen or cap is meant to accomplish two objectives

  • Keep the cleaning solution away from the outside of the pen.
  • use kinetic energy to dislodge precipitates and mould from the insides.

@jezlyn I disassemble the pen, use a soft toothbrush to scrub the feed, and soak parts in a strong vinegar and water solution. (I am wary of using bleach.) Then I rinse thoroughly and air dry, before reassembly. If I want to reuse that pen I just syringe ink in the converter/cartridge instead of dipping it into a bottle. Then I watch if the mold recurs. So far that has worked for me.

Today's pictures show a fountain pen catastrophe: mold! 🤢 Don't click through if you don't want to see moldy ink and a contaminated fountain pen feed.

The in ; its not just about the rent, in Blackpool all (ALL!) 18,000 private properties have some sort of problem!

This problem may be particularly bad in the seaside town for local reasons, but this is a common problem, compounded by fear fo complaining due to very real threat of eviction.

If the wanted a return to Victorian values, then they've certainly achieved it in !

So this is kind of embarrassing to admit, but - we left cooked rice in the rice cooker, and it got moldy.
I wanted to buy a new inner lid, but it's out of stock on the Zojirushi website for this model.
I was able to disassemble the inner lid into three pieces: hard plastic, metal, and (I think) silicone.
How do I clean the silicone so that I'm not going to be incubating mold spores every time I make rice? Is it possible?

sidereal,

@kdnyhan I texted my friend who is a real life lab scientist and he said "what i would do is scrub off anything visisble, then put it in a bowl with a bunch of baking soda. add some hydrogen peroxide and then pour boiling water over the whole thing. let it sit for a little bit and that should kill anything still stuck to it"

violetmadder,

@kdnyhan

Mold spores are pretty much everywhere, all the time. A cooking device that reaches cooking temperatures on the inside is not a good place for them to stay alive for long.
