So this is kind of embarrassing to admit, but - we left cooked rice in the rice cooker, and it got moldy.
I wanted to buy a new inner lid, but it's out of stock on the Zojirushi website for this model.
I was able to disassemble the inner lid into three pieces: hard plastic, metal, and (I think) silicone.
How do I clean the silicone so that I'm not going to be incubating mold spores every time I make rice? Is it possible? #cooking #FoodSafety #RightToRepair #mold#mould
Mold spores are pretty much everywhere, all the time. A cooking device that reaches cooking temperatures on the inside is not a good place for them to stay alive for long.
@kdnyhan I'd probably soak it in bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Or boil it. You're just sanitizing it basically. Silicone is good a good material for food stuff because of this.
@kdnyhan I texted my friend who is a real life lab scientist and he said "what i would do is scrub off anything visisble, then put it in a bowl with a bunch of baking soda. add some hydrogen peroxide and then pour boiling water over the whole thing. let it sit for a little bit and that should kill anything still stuck to it"
