There seems to be a genre of donkey-at-the-beach postcards from an earlier era. Here's #LongBeach#California in 1910, in an idyllic scene before the shoreline was tapped for oil production.
"The video "Intermodal" provides a minimalist portrayal of this critical yet awe-inspiring spectacle. Through its static shots of cargo ships being loaded & unloaded, the video highlights the overwhelming sense of anxiety that these operations can produce, while inviting viewers to contemplate their complicity in a system that values profit margins, speed and efficiency over people and the planet"
Instead of widening the Long Beach 710, LA Metro plans to upgrade streets, bike lanes and bus stops on nearby roads
I suspect there will be more pushback, but this is pretty great. It might include priority bus lanes, bike and pedestrian improvements, public greenspaces and more on Long Beach Boulevard, and bus stop improvements such as solar-powered arrival time displays, shelters and drinking fountains
11:09 EST Radar Omega screen capture from Radar KSOX indicating more rain off shore inbound for Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties. Be safe folks!
Long Beach, CA has some city-numbered bicycle routes.
Los Angeles County should do some numbered cross-county bicycle routes in time for Olympics. Some examples are:
Route 1: Santa Monica Pier to Union Station via Hollywood
Route 2: Long Beach to Union Station
Route 3: Palos Verdes to Malibu
Route 4: Claremont to Burbank
Route 5: Chatsworth to Pasadena
These bike routes could be invested in as connected corridors of bike lanes with good wayfaring signage. #Cycling#LosAngeles#LongBeach

In about 1932, a small, hexagonal shingle-style Victorian building in Long Beach got a programmatic makeover, adding a large, angular percolator made of metal and glass on the roof, to become the Hot Cha Café. The name changed to the Koffee Pot Café, but it remained a coffee shop into the 1960s...
If this was still a cafe I'd totally go there just for the style. I'm glad it was restored instead of demolished!
