To everyone who responded to my post last night, with questions & comments - I apologize for not getting back to all of you - yet. I've been hard at work on my Yom Kippur teaching on - aided by your questions & finding Jewish texts & poetry to speak to core questions & misunderstandings about forgiveness. I appreciate your responses & patience! https://sfba.social/@rabbijill/111089698642855273

Fellow Jews, I have a request. What are QUESTIONS you have about the Jewish view on forgiveness - of others, of yourself? I’m planning to teach on this on Yom Kippur. The jewish perspective on this topic is quite different than the majority culture & is often counter intuitive. Example: are you required to forgive someone who hasn’t apologized?

So far, the birthing pangs of whatever this is have been messy in terms of their effect on people. and I am sure many others have found that and are sticky, thorny functions where people are often made very unhappy, by decisions or by experiences or by the cost of these on relationships and communities.

I urge , and 1st, maybe where possible. But , & , too

isn't a gift you give to the one who wronged you, it's a gift you give to yourself. Permission to stop carrying the hate.

But it's your hate, and you get to choose. It isn't about if they "deserve" forgiveness or not. That's not the point.

If you don't want to forgive, don't.

But that shit takes energy. Choose where to spend it. Plenty of things are literally unforgivable, and that sucks, but it's life.

It's up to you to decide how to spend your time and energy.

Early Sunday morning (I mean real early) I came across a post by some blogger and grant writer named Jake Seliger who's dying of cancer and has a lot of regrets for how he lived his life.

I couldn't help but wonder what good his regrets could possibly do him when the end of his journey is imminent. But rather than comment on his site I used my own.

This might be kinda depressing for , though.

While we don’t discount our feelings, being fully led by them can be a slippery slope. You may feel sad that you have to walk away from a relationship. However, if staying is unsafe, allowing that feeling of sadness to cause you to stay is not wise. Sometimes, we just need to be reminded that we deserve relationships that are mutually respectful and safe. ❤️

Intro - Essential info in profile

Born, raised, lived in California over 50 years. I am leftist politically, Vegan because I feel it is wrong for me to exist by the harming of other sentient beings (positive side effect, a smaller carbon & water footprint). I am demisexual & dislike sexual references I filter NSFW, Kink & Lewd + (if I understand them). I read a lot & play board & table top roleplaying games. I am ASD, physical & mental health issues. Apatheist/Taoist, cPTSD

Added: I do not identify as transgender because in my life my gender has never changed, only my sex has changed. I was a girl when I was little and became a woman upon turning 18. I was forced to pretend to be male by society but I never have been.

"And while it is okay to acknowledge that all kinds of women, whether white, Black, Indigenous, Latina, Asian, cis, gender nonconforming, trans, queer, bi, or straight might have different experiences, it's not cool to act as though transwomen are in some entirely separate category from the more general category of woman. That is something that feminism needs to be clear on - that it isn't feminism if all women's concerns, particularly the most marginalized women's concerns, aren't taken seriously." - Brittney Cooper, Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower

"All over the world, young males and females, schooled in the art of patriarchal thinking, are building an identity on a foundation that sees the will to do violence as the essential way to assert being." - bell hooks

I_Like_Books,

“Visionary feminism is a wise and loving politics. It is rooted in the love of male and female being, refusing to privilege one over the other. The soul of feminist politics is the commitment to ending patriarchal domination of women and men, girls and boys. Love cannot exist in any relationship that is based on domination and coercion. Males cannot love themselves in patriarchal culture if their very self-definition relies on submission to patriarchal rules. When men embrace feminist thinking and practice, which emphasizes the value of mutual growth and self-actualization in all relationships, their emotional well-being will be enhanced. A genuine feminist politics always brings us from bondage to freedom, from lovelessness to loving.”
