I had an interesting conversation this morning with a homeless guy. Employed, but not enough to pay rent. Clean and well dressed. Talked with justifiable pride, I think, about the system he has set up. A gym membership to stay clean and healthy. A locker to store his tent and gear during the day.
Talked about how violent the shelter system is.
It’s a deep cruelty that in a land of such abundance we deny basic necessities to people.

#Students with DU chapter of #JewishVoiceForPeace speak on DU’s “failure to consider the entire student body, only prioritizing the voices of the #Zionist sect of #Judaism on campus” & how #JewishStudents who support the encampment are “continually being overlooked & misrepresented by upper administration & peers,” according to the encampment’s media representatives.
My institution - the University of Toronto - just released a remarkably bland statement on the student encampment. It basically says: we know emotions are running high, but please give us time - admin and students are talking. I have no inside information, but on the face of it at least, this is encouraging.
