"Digital platforms, which once appealed to #artists as an alternative to the corporate grind, are no better than employers. #Etsy is more interested in slapping on fees and transforming artists into #Amazon drop-shippers than supporting their livelihoods."
"#Twitter, of course, is circling the drain, and with it goes the online following that #independentartists worked to build. #Creative workers bring legitimacy to these online networks, and then we get left holding the bag."
EDIT3: i'm going to close this to new submissions since they've slowed to a trickle now
new to mastodon? do you make cool shit? if you've got under 100 followers, reply to this with 1-4 images of stuff you've made and i will boost you to my 5.8k followers, because i want people who do creative work to find a place on mastodon
please note i will be spacing out boosts to not spam my followers too much
EDIT2: if you're a composer (or do similar non-visual work) you should probably drop a link to where people can listen to your work. maybe add cover art if you have any
EDIT: if i miss your post it's likely you're on an instance mine has muted, I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do about that
So there's an aspect of this Supreme Court case on "refusing service on first amendment grounds" that seems particularly complicated. I think it's worthwhile to choose a different example that would perhaps fall into the same kind of situation for analysis. This leaves aside the questions about standing and such that have been raised in the existing case.
Let's say you have a Muslim voice over artist who promotes their services. A member of a protected class comes to them and wants them to produce a series of anti-Muslim ad spots, which would require the voice over artist to use their own voice to promote those messages.
Would it be reasonable for that voice over artist to refuse that work? How is this different or not different from the Supreme Court case at issue?
I also have a later life #adhd diagnosis (at 49) and I’m still sorting through various griefs and trying to figure out what parts of my personality are masking and what are authentic parts of me.
I almost finished a #journalcomic about how I figured out that I have ADHD but I got distracted by something else 🤷🏽♂️
Lots of folks are talking about the “democratization” of design/research. The sentiment is meaningful but the approach is a mistake.
Sites like WebMD are a democratization of doctors. They’re reasonable for small issues, but we need doctors for the big stuff. With design, research etc. it’s the same. Asking any random person to conduct research is a mistake.
I know it's inevitable, as its already well underway, but I'm against using AI to replace #humans in any and all #creative capacities.
I'll just cancel #DisneyPlus for now and wait until all the episodes for #Loki season 2 to be available this fall, then consider rejoining just to binge those two shows. Maybe.
I'm definitely near the end of my road with the MCU.
One useful resource is the website opengameart. You can also do a search on duckduckgo for images and there will be an option to look for just public domain works / creative commons, although note this doesn't work properly 100% of the time. Clipart sites are often a good place to find creative commons art.
