It's the first day of autumn, and also chestnut season! Or buckeye, depending on where you live.
An Irish legend says that a fairy pony left the print of its horseshoes on chestnut branches, when a kind blacksmith put new shoes on the tiny creature, as a favor for a fairy in a hurry.
You can see the horseshoe-like marks with the tiny nails in them, if you look closely. 😊
it took me several check outs from the library to get through this, but it is one of the most interesting, depressing & dense books I’ve ever listened to & am a better person for listening to it altho👀👀👀
Having never known about it, what I can say is, you definitely do not want this; it makes #cancer look like a🎄🎁
Book was published in 2019 when there were 75 million #babyBoomers approaching the prime dementia ages where 30-50% will have it by age 85. Post Covid tho, that number has risen %-wise & age of onset lowered by DECADES
Symptoms aren’t straight forward b/c it’s not merely the stereotypical memory loss & I realized one of my building neighbors had been suffering from it for at least 15 years after listening to all the presentations of different types. There are 7 stages & you could probably hide the fact you have it w/out too much difficulty #brainFog
There is no cure & the “recommendations of prevention” are honestly… useless if you don’t remember the first rule; DO NOT GET COVID/viruses or minimize the amount of times you do & certainly don’t breathe air arbitrarily🚫😷
Never thought about dementia b/c it didn’t run in my family but after 2 full infections, now I worry just a bit. Ok.. I’m a fatalist hypochondriac so perhaps slightly more than a “bit” but medical paranoia has been generally my friend, so I’ll continue being paranoid
The stories are harrowing but this book is definitely what I needed to know b/c mental decline will only be ever increasing all around as more time goes by
Not a lot of people know that the custard cream biscuit was originally called the Maybon to link it with its sister biscuit, the Bourbon. The bourbon was named after the ancient Frankish spring equinox festival & the Maybon was named after the ancient Celtic autumn equinox. This was an early example of twinning to promote cultural harmony. Both of these festivals involved copious amounts of baked goods & a herbal infusion mixed with milk.
(Not a lot of people know that because it’s not true — but it’s a lot more fun than claiming that Mabon, the name of a Welsh deity who has nothing to do with Autumn Equinox, has always been the name of the festival, when the two were first associated in 1974 by Aidan Kelly.)
Making mead is my favorite activity on the #AutumnEquinox. The honey I got this year was much darker than usual, I can’t wait to see how it turns out on Samhain!
Here is a link to my blog that describes my process step-by-step, including how I imbue it with magick. :pentagram:
Autumn Equinox, my favourite holiday. May you find your balance between giving and receiving, between work and rest, between caring for others and caring for your self. May you find your balance in the dark, may you find it in the light, may you find it in the middle. 💚🐦⬛
Since the apples were ripe much earlier than usual, and I've already sauced and canned them, I'm doing pears this year! Our lovely old pear tree gifted us with a bountiful harvest!
Jasper seems to be sensing the change of seasons - the autumnal equinox happened early this morning - he hasn’t gone to lay in this patch of sunlight by the back door since the end of last winter. What he doesn’t seem to know, or care about, is that weather-wise autumn is nowhere in sight, we’re still having daily high temperatures near 100 degs F (38 C).
Into a dance of breezes, bursts of yellow and gold gently anchors renewal's threshold. The whisper of Autumn's entrance showers sensual enchantment. And under a spell of glorious mirth, celebration flames its autumnal grace.
Yours truly, Eve
Good Morning Pagans!
I wish you a blessed #AutumnEquinox however you celebrate.
"Hail, day! Hail, sons of day!
And night and her daughter, too!
Look on us here, with loving eyes,
As we wait to win our victory.
Hail to the gods! Goddesses, Hail!
And all the generous earth!
Give to us wisdom and common sense,
And healing hands, life-long."
