After Fantasmic and fireworks last night, we rode Storybook and then headed to Toontown for a couple rides, and then made our way to for a late night treat.

We had the pineapple coconut float, pineapple-coconut juice topped with pineapple soft serve, strawberry lava and a turtle gummy. Really enjoyed it, and it was a good way to wind down the day while enjoying additional time with friends.

Dinner last night was at , and I had the beef bourguignon. Well, that's what it's called on the menu. But it was really more like pot roast. It was really tasty, good seasoning and texture on the beef and very flavorful accompaniments instead of just being boiled to death.

Cafe Orleans seems to have a penchant for mis-naming things, as they'd also previously referred to a sauce as "vegetarian bolognese".

We finally found the new Big Al sculpture, with the help of friends. We'd gone looking for him last week but I'd thought he was in a different place, and we apparently walked right past him without seeing him because we were focused on something else.

He's situated in the Disney Vacation Club space just across the entrance into . The lockers have been moved further up the path, and they're free for 2 hours while you go on Grizzly River Run. 1/2

Our friends discovered that if you wave a Magic Band or touched Big Al with it (we didn't quite figure out what the trigger was), he would talk or sing. Pretty cool. 2/2

We went on yesterday, and we rode the non-swinging gondola. Some of our other friends decided to ride the swinging one. So Dug from came charging at us periodically, but always with a smile.

We had a great turtle-sighting day yesterday. And look, they were even testing a baby turtle animatronic! So cute. The adult turtles only cost a quarter to activate, but the circuitry on the baby has to be smaller, so they're more expensive and cost a dollar to turn on.

Yesterday, I also tried the lemon creme fraiche cheesecake with a lemon gelee layer and graham cracker crust, from #JollyHolidayBakery . Really tasty. #Disneyland

Lunch yesterday was at , and I had the "Silenzio Bruno" sandwich, with ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce, tomato, pickled onion, pepperoncini, and Italian dressing on an Italian roll, with house-made chips. I liked the sandwich, and with everything chopped up, you got a good taste mix in every bite. The house-made chips were good too, crispy and not oily.

A woman is just about to cross the finish line of a half marathon. Her husband encourages their kids to celebrate with her. Except that he does this before the finish line, not after. He literally pushes two of the kids into her path to hug her. She deftly runs around them to cross the finish line. /1

You can't see it in the video in this story, but in others, he throws up his hands like he doesn't understand why she would "ignore" her kids.

What an asshole. He couldn't do this 20 yards further, after his wife has crossed the finish line and had a minute to revel in her triumph. He tries to interrupt her finish as well as putting the two kids in the path of danger, with another runner and a motorcycle in close proximity. /2

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

And he's trying to damage the relationship between her and her kids. They don't understand the finish line. They just know they ran to their mom and she ran past them, which I'm sure they're not used to. She's the one who's going to have to explain to them later why she did that. /3

This is even worse than the men who otherwise try to ruin big moments in a woman's life, whether it be a sporting accomplishment or a graduation or something else. But this is worse because he's weaponizing their young children. /4 end

Last weekend, I got to try the shaaken beef with Tattooine bounty, which includes peppers, onions and crispy kale, from , a dish that debuted on May 4 this year. The dish was ok, a little salty, which is saying a lot coming from me. I wouldn't order it again. /1

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

The weird part is that the husband did mobile order for this dish, and when he picked it up, the first pic is what he brought back. Oh, lots of kale, that's nice. (It wasn't as day-glow green as it appears - that's a function of my weird phone camera.)

I moved the kale aside and the second pic is what I saw. I looked at it for a minute. Umm, that doesn't look like beef. That coloring makes it look like chicken. I tasted a piece. Umm, that's not chicken. It was flour / pasta, like gnocchi. /2

There's nothing on the app, either the regular menu or on mobile order, that lets you order a vegetarian version of this dish. It's possible that you can only order it from a cashier, but the line was too long for me to ask. I don't know how you'd know to order it, though, as I didn't see any signage, though I didn't look at the regular posted menus. /3

cstephens2,

When the husband took the dish back up, the cast member looked at it, looked confused, and then called for another of the dish, which is what he brought back. He said the CM didn't seem to know what the dish was either.

You can see in this picture, of the regular dish, that it does contain a few pieces of gnocchi, which are the orange lumps at the bottom middle of the picture. (Not the bigger orange lump at the bottom right - that's a pepper.) /4

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

I think this is a terrific vegetarian offering, and I would absolutely order it, especially with the abundance of kale. The question would be how to go about doing that, and if it's available, why isn't it included on the menus in the app?

I don't know which part is supposed to be the "Tattooine bounty" though. Surely not any of the vegetable matter, from a desert planet, so maybe the gnocchi? /5 end

They "accidentally" wrote up an entire section blaming a 9 year old for unknowingly being filmed in an airplane bathroom . Even if it was a pie-in-the-sky defense that was only supposed to be in the draft and not actually filed, that's a crappy position to take regardless.
