My 17-year-old is going to be done with school in a few days and has not been able to land a summer job. He currently works a couple of Sundays a month doing live sound at a church. I’ve advised him to take his résumé around to other churches to see if he can get a gig on his off weeks or possibly get on a sublist. Would anyone on here happen to know of other types of establishments that might have a need for such skills for hire? He has also done some paid and unpaid intern work in local recording studios and recently assisted with a live performance recording. He has a good résumé for someone his age and is very mature and responsible.

Finally listened to my foley recordings from all the uses since it got here. All hail cicada double-brood emergence 2024!

I have a few approx 1min clips of crickets, birds, cicadas, a natural spring, chickens, and light morning rain with birds.

If I clean them up a little (cutting unwanted sounds like gear handling, car rumble, etc) I can use them for sound design layers of future music.

Do you have any use for them?

Oh fuck no, not Steve Albini

If you’ve never read Steve Alibini’s letter to Nirvana before In Utero, you owe it to yourself to do so to see what goodness in the music industry looks like. Dude honestly just wanted to make great records and nothing else. https://imgur.com/a/p0tKn

Is there a Zoom F2 equivalent that records in stereo? The F2, annoyingly enough, has a stereo jack but it only records in mono.
What I'm looking for is a miniscule recorder that records in 32 bit float and takes a stereo mini jack and provides plug-in power. With stereo monitoring of course. For some clandestine binaural field recordings.

Fascinating look back at the audio gear used for The Woodstock “Aquarian Exposition” (aka music festival!) in 1969.

Well worth a read, whether you were there or not...

Hi! It's your daily reminder that this talented audio engineer (me) can help you with your audio. I can provide mastering services for your music, podcast editing and consulting, and sweetening the audio tracks in your video projects.

I see lots of people releasing videos with audio that doesn't play loudly, and consistently, and needs help in general. I can fix that.

Thanks for listening!

Intriguing

I have not really dug too deeply into the #AES video collection, but this one jumped out at me

These guys are up for grabs if you've got a 500 series rack with space in it. Two Rupert Neve Designs 535 Diode Bridge Compressors and two 551 Inductive EQ units.

They're absolutely incredible sounding and make everything you put through them sound better, but I gotta simplify.

I got my first guitar amplifier in 1969: an Austrovox with 100 watts. Unfortunately it broke. This mishap caused me to decide to study electrical engineering at Graz University of Technology. At master's level, I decided to specialise in Audio Engineering. I never learned to fix my amplifier, though. However, I learned about other exciting topics. Digital technology became my profession. Recently I bought a processor containing more guitar amplifier sounds I will ever need.

It's amazing what producers and engineers in the were able to get out of what is in retrospect extremely rudimentary digital audio processing technology, and "that sound" is still being emulated in plugins today.
