One of the West Kennett Avenue stones beside the B4003; the remaining stone of the destroyed Falkner's stone circle; and two from Avebury. On a rainy day at the end of May 2011.
"Standing here, in the rain
Maybe the weather will change again..."
A little bit of Avebury for today's #StandingStoneSunday. This visit in May 2011 at the end of a walk from Wroughton airfield that took in Barbary Castle hillfort, Fyfield Down (The Polisher) and Devil's Den. I like Avebury best as the end point of a walk over the Downs, with time to appreciate the landscape.
Three stones of the southern inner circle on the left, two massive stones of the great circle on the right.

Off to Wiltshire and a Neolithic chambered tomb for today's #StandingStoneSunday
Devil's Den below Fyfield Down is a reconstructed chamber, originally it would have been covered by an earthen mound. It's a lovely walk here from Avebury or The Ridgeway, taking in the stone river of the Mother's Jam.
A monument to Edward and William Walrond in the church of St. Michael, at Aldbourne, Wiltshire, England. There were brothers who grew wealthy from land ownership and management. They lived during the reign of Elizabeth 1st. It became fashionable for the wealthy to create such monuments to show their status, in return for bequests to the church. Often these monuments were created by travelling artistes who had relocated from Flanders and Netherlands. April 2024. #silentsunday#stonework#churchmonuments#aldbourne#wiltshire#england
This is a garden escapee, growing beside a public footpath in #Swindon. It's a garden variety of Wood Forget-me-not. I assume it was bred for a long flowering season and that may be why it's so early. Not sure if it will manage to dodge the mowers when they start up again in the spring. #Wiltshire#Bloomscrolling#botany#plants#flowers#wildflowers#photography
#Compost, around a cubic metre of it. All materials from last year (2023). Looks good and smells and feels nice. Would already do for a #mulch but I won't be using it until the autumn, so it has another eight or nine months to decompose more. Home to lots of #earthworms.
Didn’t there used to be an open-access electronics / making things workshop in Bath or Bristol? Sort of place where you could pay a membership fee to use the facilities? Or am I dreaming it?
Anyone have any pointers? @jarkman or @jonty, do either of you have any ideas?
My son (21) is keen to do some building / making but our spare room is a poor substitute for a proper workshop.
