I'm not looking for new vintage #cassette gear right now, but when a friend gifts you a desirable one owner #boombox from 1985 that's in close to new condition and doesn't need any work, it'd be churlish not to accept, right?
These #Sharp component boomboxes are a bit of a unicorn in that they're small, fully featured, can take a #turntable input and actually sound excellent.
This type of #turntable is fully automatic. It's nice to use, but harder to service. Now I have to find 5 quite different lubricants to grease/lube specific points of the turntable 😳 Fortunately it is a well-known deal with Dual turntable and many resources exist. BTW I just ordered an Audio Technica ATVM95E cart at the place of the DN211 that was originally there.
I inspected the #Dual 1218 #turntable mechanism and I cleaned it. There are signs of wear in the large gear that controls the automatic mechanism. I wonder if it can be fixed or polished before I will receive the correct grease for it.
I cleaned and regreased the Dual 1218 #turntable. After a little fight with the infamous “steuerpimpel” I was able to make the turntable mechanism work again. I love it! Now I only need to work on the damper, put the new cartridge, set it up properly and job done!

I have an old Garrard turntable. It's been pretty nice but the cartridge seems to be broken. Since I play pretty much every kind of record (78/45/LP), I'm looking for advice for a replacement that makes it easy to play both 78's and microgrove records, and works with a standard 0.5" mount.
I've seen a few cartridges that have a stylus that flips over for different needles for 78 or LP. Are those any good? (It's a little hard to find ones for 0.5" mount, but there's a few).
Can anyone advise me on what's wrong with my #turntable? It's a Pyle that I picked up about ten years ago. I just replaced its cartridge, being sure to put the wires on the proper pins per the Pyle manual. Now when I turn it on, I hear a quiet, low-pitched buzz from the left channel. When I play a record, the right channel gets the music, but the left only gets that buzz. I re-connected every wire in the signal chain, but it didn't make a difference. Wondering where I went wrong. TIA
I’m repairing another #turntable (Philips GF614/04) and removing the back cover revealed a very pleasant surprise! The schematic was there, right where it is the most visible and useful 😍
There was no audio output from the #turntable. It seemed that the culprit was the IC amplifier, an unobtanium SBF3B. From the schematic it looked like a dual opamp with a voltage divider and some compensation inputs. I tried to adapt a TL082 and it seems to work! #electronics
