Is #FacebookChat in #Thunderbird still working, or is this a remnant from when it was using #XMPP for it? I still see the option available, but last time I tried a while ago it was not working and I struggled really hard to remove it.
The Thunderbird story is an epic of countless individual stories, coming together to make something bigger than themselves. We're sharing those stories in a new series, and our first spotlight is on one of our amazing Bugzilla volunteers.
Arthur helps new volunteers document issues, as well as testing bug fixes. Read more at the blog, and find out how to share (or start!) your own Thunderbird story!
Problem: Thunderbird's calendar loses the ability to update my Google Calendar. I assume this is Google messing with OAuth or Thunderbird specifically to "encourage" direct Google Calendar use.
Solution: Host my own CalDAV server.
This will probably give me two problems (or more).
@VileLasagna Hey, hey, looks like my NAS (a Synology) has a calendar with CalDAV support... since I work from home, I can probably make this work pretty well without opening up anything to the Internet at large.
I've just tried the new #thunderbird Beta and... wow, I'm completely blown away. It looks amazing, seems to have threading, and is blisteringly fast on my terribly overloaded inboxes. Bravo to the @thunderbird team!
✉️ For the 2nd time I gave #FairEmail a chance, but sorry, no... the setup and settings are so confusing and complex, I am really not able to use it (saying that as a geek is quite surprising, isn't it). #K9mail remains the best free & opensource email client for #AndroidOS. It is the official #Thunderbird app for mobile. Thank you, #Mozilla@thunderbirdhttps://k9mail.app/
✅ Custom Account Colors
✅ Linux System Tray Support
✅ Rust-Enabled Builds
And that's only half of the good news! This month's Thunderbird Development Digest from @alecaddd has some great updates as we step closer to the next ESR.
It’s finally happening?! #Thunderbird is getting native Linux system tray support.
"Enabling Rust builds in Thunderbird also gives us the ability to implement some long awaited features much faster. We’re still testing and cleaning things up, but if you’re adventurous you can check out our GitHub repositories for Linux System Tray and DBus hooks and run them locally.”
One more reason, why I still use #ProtonMail Bridge with #Thunderbird over the ProtonMail app: search. The app claims to be able to search the content, but it already struggles with the sender name. @protonprivacy
For example, I search for the sender "Foo-Electronics" in my mailbox and the app finds nothing when I search for "Foo", no matter if I enter the word in the general search box or the sender name box. Meanwhile, #Thunderbird works as expected and finds the message. @protonprivacy#ProtonMail
Team Thunderbird is all about getting focused and organized so we can do the things we need (and want!) to do. We're sharing our favorite productivity tips and tools with a Thunderbird twist in a new series! ✨
@thunderbird@thunderbird So… is anyone keeping tabs on #Betterbird? I can’t say I’m fond of everything they’ve done, but in the world of “we care about using Graph with #O365#Exchabge” this is starting to gain steam. I’m resisting g the fork, but I’m curious what the team has to say on the subject.
Indeed the latest round of chat revolved around a version of #TbSync hacked to talk to #GraphAPI.
