Day 807

Issue #4 of "House of Cards", the second comic series based on The Drawing of the Three.

Now we're at the moment of the big shootout. And where heads will roll.

I have zero skills in the visual arts, but I'd have to imagine the artists for this series had to have been nervous about bringing this pivotal moment to life.

stephenkingjourney,

Roland would never say "After we kill everyone..." in such a lighthearted manner. Way out of character for the Roland that WE know from the books!

stephenkingjourney,

While the dialog is weak, the action is rendered very well!

stephenkingjourney,

I know licenses had to be taken given the target audience of a comic book series, but it was an important plot point for Eddie to have been buck naked during this shootout. It was the first time that Roland admired Eddie and thought of him as a possible gunslinger.

stephenkingjourney,

I really like this rendering of The Dark Tower. Imagine if the red swirling clouds in the background were animated - how hypnotic would that be?

If you're a fan of Stephen King's work and familiar with his universe, then this line in Song of Susannah (The Dark Tower 6) will make so much sense:

"You'll go on with your life. You'll write many stories, but everyone will be to some greater or lesser degree about this story. Do you understand?"
-- Roland Deschain to a young Stephen King, saying the quiet part out loud

I'm feeling a bit emotional at the moment. I just traveled 600 miles to my childhood town to visit family. I arrived early & decided to visit one of my happiest places: The public library.

It was at this very library in the early 80s where a 12-year-old me had just checked out Pet Sematary and learned about 's existence for the very first time.

I spoke to myself from 40 years ago as I walked through the entrance. He would never believe the life that was ahead of him.

For the third time this year, I had to mark a book DNF. I hate doing that, but I had completely lost interest in the characters and the pace was so. damn. slow.

For me, the balm after a book like that is #StephenKing. Almost always reliable. In this case, I'm continuing my re-read of The Dark Tower series, so I know what I'm getting. Glad to be back with Roland's ka-tet in Song of Susannah. #FridayReads #Bookstodon #TheDarkTower #AmReading #Books @bookstodon

BravePicks 2023 - BURNING WITCHES' The Dark Tower #20
Where does the time go? 2023 seems like a blur as we continued to rebound from COVID, the music industry still struggling to get back on their feet. But metalheads have always been strong survivors and music ruled the day...

Day 689

Next up is Issue 4 of The Gunslinger: The Way Station. I really like the cover here.

stephenkingjourney,

Reading/watching adaptations can be less enjoyable if you're intimately familiar with the source material. In this issue, the story has deviated with the introduction of "suckerbats" that I couldn't care less about, wanting the story to just advance the way I remember it.

Which isn't fair to this creative team.

Onward, then.

stephenkingjourney,

That's an excellent interpretation of Roland's haunting dream!

Kind of out of character for me, but I wanted to show you my favorite part of my daily walk around my neighborhood.

Hedgewizard,

Having read the story of Father Callaghan in #theDarkTower I would check carefully that you're still in the same world at the top of those steps each time, just in case you can't find them again after

So, #MikeFlanagan is filming 'THE LIFE OF CHUCK' right now (which is awesome), but I need him to hurry up and start working on #TheDarkTower series before something gets in the way of production (like another strike or something). I just want to see it before I DIE!!! 😅

After I finish a book that's a bit of a slog (or, most recently, DNF), I like to treat myself with something awesome that I can really dive into. Yesterday for a palate cleanser, I decided to resume my stalled re-read of the Dark Tower series with Wolves of the Calla (The Dark Tower 5) by Stephen King. Mr. King is ridiculously reliable when it comes to providing something good to read. #Books #Bookstodon #AmReading #FridayReads #StephenKing #TheDarkTower @bookstodon

Eddies dead. Even though King said in the 6th book that he'd die, it's still so sad. I love him.
I reckon they're all going to before the end, except Roland, so he can finish as he started. I'll set my watch and warrant on it, so I will and say thankya.
Damn you Stephen.

I absolutely adore the bit where Father Callahan - a character from Salem's Lot - is reading the novel Salem's lot, and all the things that could happen as a result of that. I've never read a book where that's been done before, and want more of it if it's done well. Or, an author discovering that their characters have become real or something like that.
I hope King explores that more in Dark Tower 6.
Then of course there's the bit where Stephen King's actually a character in number 6..

Detta is really pissing me off now. I wish they'd just dump her somewhere or do what she clearly wants. Why does Roland need her.
