I feel like I post this every few months, but: is there a launcher for #Android AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE to the latest #Pixel Launcher, but lets me use a different search engine?
I love the stock launcher:
• At a Glance
• Combined app/web search
• Very little customizability because good defaults
• Smooth animations/integration w/Recents
• Ability to turn off Google Discover feed
• Simple gestures (⬇️ notifications, ⬆️ all apps)
I'm using the Pixel Tablet w/Android as a "computer" today, and yeah, it still falls short in a few ways.
For touch-based multitasking, I love the new split view, taskbar, and overall setup. But for a mouse and keyboard, it's not there yet, which, fair, they don't advertise it as a laptop replacement!
For anyone curious, here's what I've found so far (thread). I hope this can help inform some good/bad for people designing adaptive experiences.
All of the glowing photography reviews of the Pixel 8, but like… is the camera app laggy af for anyone else? It’s kind of hard to capture good photos of moving subjects if the preview runs at 1FPS and you can only take two photos every ten seconds.
What is the closest Android launcher to the Pixel launcher experience, but with a search bar that I can change to DuckDuckGo? That’s literally the ONLY thing I want to change about the default launcher, and afaik it’s impossible (European regulation be damned).
I am explicitly NOT interested in manually recreating the experience with a much more complicated launcher like Nova or Action Launcher.
The Pixel Fold has been really validating to use. I took a lot of flack for suggesting the Galaxy Z Fold hinge was the wrong orientation three years ago. I preferred the Surface Duo "book" form factor.
Now all these reviewers talking about how nice the Pixel Fold is for being a "digital moleskine".
I feel seen. 😊
NOOOO! The public release of Android 14 doesn't include the option to use your phone as a webcam!?!?!?
DAMMIT! I wanted to use that with the Pixel 8 Pro!
Someone please tell me I'm missing something...
Okay, because my wife has a Pixel 5 and it's getting its last guaranteed OS update today (the last gen without Google Tensor silicon!), I'm seriously considering trading it in for a Pixel 8, and having her upgrade to my perfectly-functional Pixel 7.
$300 trade-in is not bad for a three-year-old device that I think we got for around $500 in the first place.
Then we're set for four more years of OS updates for the 7, which is nice.
Bummed they went with matte on the Pro only, too! I still have my Pixel 3 and love the matte glass finish. I wish they just used that everywhere; smooth glass is just so damn slippery.
When I upgraded from a Pixel 7 Pro to a Pixel Fold, Google was offering a free Pixel Watch with every Pixel Fold preorder. Since I already had one, I offered it up to my buddy Matt and he posted about it. Google saw it and did something cool and sent us both free new Pixel Watch bands! These look dope!

So yeah, the #Pixel8Pro face unlock doesn't work at night. I'm not going to blow anyone's mind here, but it's good to confirm how it works. It's rated for a higher security for things like app purchases, but without the IR camera, it can't really see in the dark.
Najlepszy do zdjęć w cenie 1500pln, (+/- 300pln) to będzie pixel 7a?
