Great plan #Dgar. Release your new track on the same day that Taylor Swift drops her new album. Brilliant. Oh, and The Wiggles dropped an album too? Great. That’s just great.
I found an interesting album today! "Woodland Rites" by Green Lung. Pretty cool sound and somewhere between stoner rock and stoner metal with doomy influences? I'm not sure where to put it.
Anyway, great for the evening and to calm down.
Recommended songs: "Initiation", "The Ritual Tree", "May Queen" and "Into the Wild". I really liked and will certainly listen to the album more often :)
Track List
Black Sky Giant - Planet Terror
Black Sabbath - Electric Funeral
Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
Elephant Tree - Wither
Earth - Old Black
Weedpecker - Reality Fades
Spaceslug - SpaceRunner
Lowrider - Pipe Rider
It goes by many names: Doom Metal, Stoner Rock, Desert Rock, Heavy Psych, Sludge Metal… they’re all mostly describing the same thing. Low tuned, fuzzed-out guitars, and slow tempos. Black Sabbath pretty much prototyped the genre, which is why I included them here.
If there are any vocals at all, the lyrics tend to involve drugs, space, paganism, or general feelings of doom (go figure). Not that it matters, they’re almost always unintelligible. 😏
In the 90s there was a big stoner rock scene in the Palm Desert, #California area, which is why it’s sometimes referred to as Desert Rock. Kyuss was probably the biggest band to come out of that era.
More recently there’s been a flourishing of doom metal bands in #Poland. The last 3 bands in this mix are all from Poland.
Black Sabbath pretty much invented doom metal in 1970. Good job guys. For you younger types, that's Ozzy Osbourne's original band. 😉
Members of Kyuss have gone on to form or play in Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal, and Them Crooked Vultures among other bands.
Elephant Tree is from London.
Earth is one of the pioneers of Drone Metal. (Yet another sub-genre!)
Weedpecker, Spaceslug and Lowrider are all from Poland. 🇵🇱
For other Polish bands, check out Dopelord, MuN, Bantha Rider, Major Kong, Fifty Foot Woman, Kapitan Bongo, Seedium, WEIRD TALES, Shine, Belzebong and Sunnata.
For those of you who love heavy music and are making #AOTY lists, make sure you check out The Obelisk's top 60 list first, just released. I have found quite a few favorites through JJ, he has excellent taste and is a great reviewer.
Hello once again to another #SlowSunday. I would say that my song today goes more into the direction of rock than the songs before. But again it is one of my absolute favourite songs. It's from the Basque band Arenna and is called Eclipse. I like the whole album but on my opinion this song is really special. #StonerRock
This music tends to get described as 'stoner rock' or sometimes 'stoner doom'. But let's face it, it's just a new crop of old school psychedelic rock, played by metallers ; )
I do like this album though. Thanks to The Algorithms (TM) for recommending it ; )
If anyone is planning anything for Weed Day this Saturday, 20th April (4/20), and you’re looking for something to put on your Weed Day song playlist, I have something that may just fit the bill.
Gettin Stoned (feat. Andre Louis) will be coming out this Friday on Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify, and all the other streamy places, just in time for you to add it to your Saturday playlist. Be sure to give @Onj a follow!! He did an awesome job on the drums for this track and is a general, all-round legend!
As all #Dgarheads know, the original, full-quality wav file for every #DgarMusic track is available for download from their respective Soundcloud page, which you can then convert to your favourite format and play it on any device you choose.
Want to listen to it now? Okay then! Here it is on #Soundcloud!
Das Album könnte ich eigentlich mal wieder hören...
Muss immernoch den Schlagzeuger überreden mal mit in den Proberaum kommen zu dürfen. 🤭 Ich finde das interessant und Proberäume riechen so gut! Naja...Blabla... Viel Spaß beim hören! 🙂 #StonerRock#DesertRock
It's #RegionalRiffs time again. An amazing band from here in Arizona (that I really miss- they broke up after their 2017 album) was TWINGIANT. Gnarly, heavy shit. Bass player Jared's rough growl-scream vocals, walls of guitars, doomy, some Motorhead in there too. I saw em twice and we hung out both times too (once with my now wife before we were married!)
Twingiant left us with FOUR amazing albums, starting with Mass Driver in 2012, all linked below. I still have my ratty Twingiant shirt from this era and you're damn right I still wear it.
Good morning @AqiDrago and all you others who are crazy about good music. 🙂🎶🎵 #thesundaystarter on my side for today is Road To Burn by the Greek 🇬🇷 #stonerrock band 1000mods.
My best friend from my home region is on visit we sat on a good friends terrace and had alcoholic drinks. I'm drunken now because I'm not used to it anymore. So I will listen to some more songs and maybe torturing my neighbours with my singing.
Guten Morgen an die Frühaufsteher! 🐦 Ich geh jetzt ins Bett. Hab ein bisschen nach neuer Musik gestöbert und hab endlich das gefunden, was ich heute Abend gesucht hab.
Killer hazy, heavy #garagerock with Ty Segall playing drums.
A friend bought me this when it came out in ‘13, and it took me a while to click with it. Now, I listen to it multiple times a year, and it’s become a fun album I consistently revisit.
Super #stonerrock goodness, particularly the song “What’s In My Head?”.
#GreatAlbums1990s - #MastersOfReality – #SunriseOnTheSufferbus (1992). Despite the name, Masters of Reality were less metal than blues-rock revivalists with a whiff of Palm Desert seasoning. With Ginger Baker on drums, the Masters pummel, croon and rap their way through tunes that sound like classic Cream one minute, proto-rap the next, lounge rock after that. Chris Goss runs the show, doing an amazing Jack Bruce impersonation on “100 Years…”. #GreatRockAlbums, #Music, #Rock, #StonerRock
[FRESH ALBUM] Queens Of The Stone Age - In Times New Roman…
How are we feeling about this new release from QOTSA?
