I watched part of this 7+ hour #startrek video about the Dominion War and was curious about wtf the section "the day capitalism could have saved" was about...
...but its just a cowardly rant about how people should surrender to save lives even if it means sacrificing freedom that completely misses that if you let a hostile force run roughshod all over you, there's probably going to be more deaths from people executed and victimized by the newly created occupation authorities

I think what I resent the most about the technology we’re calling “#ai “ is that I used to be fascinated with the potential of creating actual artificial intelligence.
I grew up with #megaman , #astroboy , #startrek , and the idea that we could create artificial beings with their own sentience and hopes and creativity was inspiring. I still hope for that someday.
As it is now though, the fact we now associate the term with content scraping and mimicry is simply discouraging.
Making my way through season 5 of #StarTrekDiscovery and this could turn out to be the most well rounded season of that show. I loved s1 a ton for its novel approach to #StarTrek. I was deeply disappointed by s2 and its nostalgia fest. I again loved s3 right up until the end but the final episode was just shite. And the reverse is true for s4 which I found mostly uninteresting until the final three episodes or so. But this right here is enjoyable all around.
The main image may be mirrored, but fascinating anyway. Elites provided tax relief for followers all through history. Don't forget why people do things for powerful friends.

80 years ago today, June 6, 1944, James M. Doohan of Vancouver, led D Company of Royal Winnipeg Rifles ashore at Juno beach. He would be shot 6 times, survive and go on to become Scotty on Star Trek.
Every time I start to side-eye a modern Trek show about something that feels contrived, I remember that on stardate 8130.4 the USS Reliant straight rolled up on the Ceti Alpha system while somehow not noticing an ENTIRE-ASS-ASTEROID-BELT where a planet should have been…
And did so in the film that's about as foundational to Trek canon as can be had, too.

Finished Mind Meld (1997) by John Vornholt and I enjoyed it! The novel focuses on Spock and his niece Teska being pursued by Rigelian criminals.
As is clear from the cover, this book is mostly about Spock and a young Vulcan named Teska. I just wanted to clarify first that Spock is not her uncle by blood, but instead fills that role after Teska’s parents died. 1/8 #StarTrekTOS#StarTrek#bookstodon
