This <$100 thing might be the most performant machine I own. 😆
Also, I've been experimenting a bit with #NomadBSD lately. It's not quite as polished as a Linux distro, but it's mighty nice! (Persistent #FreeBSD-based boot USB image, can do UFS or ZFS and optionally encrypt)
I picked falcon because it was old and a little beat up, but also very functional. rogueone because it was a bit of a rebellious device (a $200 ARM linux laptop!), and Excelsior was especially poignant because of an elegant, but unstable machine.
I write at the intersection of #space, #science, #tech, and pop culture (#scifi). I’m the host/writer of PBS’s YouTube show Far Out. I’ve got a book on stargazing coming out in 2023 and co-edited the Arthurian anthology SWORD STONE TABLE.
I have a Wired column where talk about #gaming as a parent. I contribute to #StarTrek dot com and co-host of the podcast Desi Geek Girls.
According to the news this morning Paramount #StarTrek is being bought by a consortium funded by KKR. Well, it was a good run folks. Maybe in another thirty years we can try again.
In 2018, a biologist wrote a paper based on the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Threshold" (one of the silliest episodes in Star Trek history) and submitted it to 10 open-access journals to expose their predatory practices:
"charging authors publication fees without providing the editorial services associated with legitimate journals, such as careful peer review and vetting of the paper's claims."
OK shameless self promotion time. Here is my personal website featuring all of my original #StarTrek#DoctorWho and #DC#LEGO builds, including my 4 foot #USSEnterprise project from 2020. Feel free to take a peek (and kindly boost if you like what you see):

I still love that they created a completely animated version of the Strange New Worlds title sequence for the "Those Old Scientists" crossover episode with Lower Decks.
