Since 2022 it has been implied multiple times by the openSUSE Development, that openSUSE Leap was being discontinued. Then they said it wasn't being discontinued, but replaced. Once more, they said it wasn't being replaced, simply changed. Now lastly, they're saying it may remain, but either in 1 of 3 forms
Ever watch a TV network kill off a good TV show, because the new executive does not like it, but the fans keep hanging on?
A rising tide raises all boats - if you're going to punish #redhat, make sure you punish all #Linux companies if you can't easily build their entire code tree yourself
I wish #SUSE/#openSUSE would just enable #dnf out of box for non-transactional variants. #zypper is comparatively slower/clunky and there's not a clearly unsolveable issue with their mutual co-existence. #Linux
It would have you wrongfully believe, Red Hat Linux came 1st. It did not. Furthermore, it goes even further and tries to claim that SUSE didn't step onto the stage until 2 whole years later. 🙄
It's been added and removed so many times that it is laughable.
If you're bored this Sunday, here is the remedy: your weekly dose of #Linux and #OpenSource news!
In this video, we have a new Microsoft Surface equivalent, designed to run Linux, we have the #GNOME 45 beta and a few cool new features in it, we have more details about #COSMIC customization, similar to Material You, and #SUSE going private.
I'm tired of arguing about RHEL stuff for now. There isn't anything left to be said that hasn't been said at this point. Whether or not anyone is listening to what has been said isn't up to me. I'm moving on to using #Linux to do cool stuff again. Please don't read any further #SUSE posting as Red Hat commentary. For now, I'm done comparing company policies on this and that and just want to build stuff that enables others to do cool things, which is what I love most about #opensource.
My new developer note that I am including in my software:
"SUSE Linux is a wonderful distribution that stubbornly does not want to include 1 free, simple, and basic library that every mainstream distro includes. Without, you cannot extract standard TAT.BZ2 file. -- You should pester SUSE to stop being difficult."
I have now included that as part of the installer. Furthermore, it checks for zypper and installs bzip2
Red Hat’s decision to lock down RHEL sources behind a subscription paywall was met with much ire and opened opportunity for Oracle to get a smack in and SUSE to announce a fork with $10 million behind it 🥊
Few RHEL community members have been as publicly irate as @geerlingguy, so we invited him on the show to discuss 💬
Imagine my surprise when I realized I'm enjoying Fedora. 😂
Over a decade ago, I got burned by Red Hat (before IBM bought them out). I swore up and down, I would never rely on them again. I even had a go at them (cheap laugh) when Red Hat became closed source.
—Have you tried Fedora Kinoite? 😂
After 2 plus years of SUSE not having any clear vision or direction I'm really enjoying Fedora right now. 🤣
Mine begun with the trusty old #Debian - I remember Sarge being a big deal - I've ordered a copy on multiple CDs.
Then I've got a job, found myself confronted with #SUSE and #YAST... didn't know what to do with all that automated user-friendlyness, my boss insisted. I knew how you juggle conf files, but this strange yast thing? The same boss got me a Celeron box as a 1-man- helpdesk workstation. He also decided to run dissimilar HDDs on a HW-RAID controller.
