Game PC won't boot up anymore. Gets to the VGA light, beeps as if it's going to boot, but five seconds later gives boot failure tones.
Figuring it's the video card, I swapped the RX 6750XT with the old GTX 1660 Super I have in my Void Linux desktop. Linux system boots fine on the RX 6750XT, and the Game PC still gives the same symptoms.
Now to figure out if it's the CPU or the motherboard that's shit the bed. It's a three-year-old system I built just before the Pandemic took hold.
After a lot of upgrading and a bit of finagling, the system is up and running again. I ended up with …
#AMD#Ryzen 7 7700X CPU - And it seems to have built in graphics as well, not that I’d use them.
MSI Pro B650-P WiFi - This is a slight downgrade from the X570 board I had in 2020-now, but I really wasn’t taking advantage of all those extra features. I’m not using the WiFi, of course; it was just the board in the bundle.
32 GB DDR5-6000 RAM. Also bundled.
Corsair RM850x fully-modular power supply. Finally every cable is swappable/removable.
After I got the system booted and put in my BitLocker key, I struggled a little bit with re-activating Windows. Finally I re-entered my product key, and it shut up.
All that’s left to figure out is why the my GPU is only connecting at 8x in the 16x slot. It doesn’t seem to affect performance; #RiftApart seems to run smoothly.
#AMD Launches The #EPYC8004 "Siena" 4th Gen #EPYC Processors Review
Overall the EPYC 8004 series "Siena" processors are quite interesting and open up Zen 4(C) EPYC to new markets at lower price points and TDPs than what is targeted by Genoa. Siena is very complementary to Genoa(X) and Bergamo and fills a nice void between them and then AMD #Ryzen for more budget-minded and #SOHO/#SMB#server deployments. https://www.phoronix.com/review/amd-epyc-8004-linux
A little thread on Feilner-IT software setup... At the core of it all is #Owncloud@ownclouders . I use it for file sync, share and a simple backup Inside that, I run @collabora and @ONLYOFFICE .
You should test it, you won't believe how fast those two run on #ownCloudInfiniteScale. I even wrote my first Linux-Mag-Article completely in the browser, with strong auth, on the way to #zerotrust, both from linux, chromebook or mobile clients. I dont do Windows or Apple, but it's avail. 1/
And finally, there's my seven-screen desktop – two laptops, running @opensuse#Tumbleweed on energy-efficient yet fast #ryzen hardware. Pure opensource, software like #barrier connects the devices, so that one keyboard one mouse controls all screens seamlessly, including clipboard.
(disclaimer: Only non-OSS might be hidden in Chrome or Codecs. I don't usually use proprietary, no one needs that, it's not the nineties anymore :-) )
Oh, and of course I am a proud user of @kde and @librewolf /7
Beelink SER6 Max is a mini PC with a Ryzen 7 7735HS processor overclocked to 65 Hz
When Mini PC maker Beelink launched the SER6 and SER6 Pro last year, the little desktop computers were powered by AMD Ryzen 6000H processors. Since then the company has updated the systems with newer (and similar, but slightly higher-performance) Ryzen 7 7735HS chips. Models with that processor are now available for around $500 and up. But soon the company plans to launch another model…
A new vulnerability impacting AMD’s line of Zen 2 processors — which includes popular CPUs like the budget-friendly Ryzen 5 3600 — has been discovered that can be exploited to steal sensitive data like passwords and encryption keys. I don’t really need a gaming laptop so was considering the framework 13. If anyone has any experience with it please share! Bonus points for any details of using Linux on it and/or the AMD version.
@steal_your_face I’ve been running Linux on the #Framework 11th gen Intel version for a few years and it’s been great so far. The aluminum chassis feels quite solid and the battery life is enough to get me through the day most of the time. I’m just waiting for the Batch 1 #Ryzen mainboards to ship so I can tack my Intel board to the basement wall as a media server.
Anyway, as I mentioned recently, I have a new workstation that finally allows me to test our code using all three backends (#CUDA, #ROCm/#HIP and #CPU w/ #OpeMP) thanks to having an #AMD#Ryzen processor with an integrated #GPU in addition to a discrete #NVIDIA GPU.
Of course the iGPU is massively underpowered compared to the high-end dGPU workhorse, but I would expect it to outperform the CPU on most workloads.
And this is where things get interesting.
Time for a nice little memory boost for the micro #ryzen#homeserver 🤘
Already runs Active Directory nicely, but it's time to spin up some #linux hyper-v machines and migrate my @homeassistant setup and NAS to a centralized server 🙌😎 :homeassistant: :debian: :docker:
Thinking I want to build my first personal home server. I have a #Synology#NAS DS220j but I'm thinking it's probably not adequate for Plex transcoding, among other tasks. I have a spare #Ryzen 2700x and 16GB DDR4, and also a 2060 Super (does a server benefit from a GPU?). Looking for any advice #fosstodon would be willing to share regarding hardware and software solutions.
I did a little #casemod to my #beeLink#ryzen#miniPC to add external #antennas so I can pick up my neighbor's #xfinitywifi#hotspot better and I think I did a pretty good job! The clearance for the m.2 slot is pretty tight, but other than that I think it turned out pretty good.
Now to see if I improved the #wifi reception or made it worse 🤞
