It's automated with Ansible, pulling ZFS snapshots from my beefy HL15 rackmount NAS, and it's sipping 8.5W while doing so. More to come, here's the story so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8EIs8s303k
@geerlingguy#sanoid & #syncoid are really neat. At some point I was even using a #raspberryPi 1 as a backup host, no need for a lot of power/bandwidth if you don't deal with terabytes of changes at once :)
The Golden era of Mini PCs - more powerful and often less $ than a #RaspberryPi - because we are in the tail end of #Intel's monolithic die. Notice #AMD has no super value proposition low end chips to go into a ~$150ish mini! Why? Chiplets and fabrics. Intel missed this boat and when an i9 doesn't come out of the oven right they fuse off features and it becomes an i7, i5, i3, all the way down to the kind of amazing value n100 which you find in $120 PCs. Intel is onto chiplets now, era to end!
Just managed to finish editor version v0.11.0-alpha. It has bugs, some of which might be engine regressions, will try to fix them ASAP. It has Windows, x64 Linux, and aarch64 Linux (#raspberrypi) versions.
Pineberry Pi is renaming to Pineboards, and they are launching some new boards. I'm excited for them, they are a small Polish company that makes boards for Raspberry Pi 5.
I’ve been rebuilding a #RaspberryPi installation that supports my classic Mac habit 😄
I used to use the awesome #MacIPGW image which includes a ton of pre-configured software like #netatalk. But it hasn’t been updated in a while so I used it as excuse to start from scratch.
I used this Pi Zero W as my starting point. HDMI video stopped working on it for unknown reasons. I added an Ethernet/USB hub hat and a #TashTalk 2 hat for #LocalTalk devices.
I've a long list of chores for the weekend, one of which is to rescue a failed #raspberryPi server hosting #mosquitto.
It's an very old RPi 1B I'd managed to boot from an also-old 2TB NAS hard drive in an ext housing. Most things suggested it wasn't possible w old 1B - but it had been solid for 4 months until Tuesday. Prev it'd last a max of 2months on an SDcard.
I figured it was a wacky tenuous setup to begin with so failure wasn't a surprise…
Beginning of the year, I asked here: can I use a #RaspberryPi 5 as my primary desktop machine? After encouraging responses, I went for it. Here are my experiences after three months of usage. It will be a thread, but goes a bit beyond the usual "how do the initial installation and setup".
I'm working on reducing the power consumption of a Raspberry Pi Pico W, and so far I managed to reduce the average power usage from 40mA to 6mA. Blog post incoming!
Forgot to toot, I had tried to use #SSH#X11Forwarding to run graphic applications on my servers (#raspberrypi , and even a broken-screen #pinephone with Wayland !)
After some configuration all of them work. Yay I can now run x11 apps on headless machines.
